I plan to buy a MBP, and use Boot Camp with my Windows XP CD..
It only has one button, so will it still have the features of scrolling/double finger tap for right click functions in Windows XP, when booted with XP?
Thanks.
-
Right now, I believe tapping with two fingers to create a right click is not supported yet, but scrolling yes. I believe using two fingers on the touchpad and pressing the mouse button is supported as well.
-
Sam, did you address this question in your sticky? If not, you should. I'm too lazy to check myself.
-
.
-
Haha, Cool
! I know I've seen several threads that ask this same specific question.
-
Done! And I posted a Sticky Update as well, to inform everyone about the update.
-
Alright, how do you right click then in Windows XP?
*checks the sticky* -
Check the sticky, sharpsees
. Its under Things to Note, or also in the latest post there, the Sticky Update.
-
Thanks, I read the sticky.
Last few questions, how convenient is it to use two fingers and right click, will MBP support extra buttons on the mouse such as scroll/mouse4/mouse5and, and also I read somewhere MacBook doesn't have a dedicated key for delete, is there any alternative?
Thanks. -
Here's a direct link to the Sticky for no apparent reason: Running Windows on a Mac: Boot Camp, Parallels & VMware Fusion
Anyone notice my username magically changed from eternal to Xander?
Some mice have issues in OS X. Your best bet is to check the manufacturer's website to see if the particular mouse has Mac drivers. But when you use a mouse in Boot Camp, it just works. The same as if you were on any other Windows PC.
There is a dedicated key for Delete, but it's actually Backspace (though it says Delete). I do not know of an alternative for this, sorry. -
.
Anyways, I think two fingers + mouse button is really convenient. I actually prefer this to a dedicated right click as I can click anywhere along the mouse button and I know for sure what type of click it'll be (left or right).
Yes, if you have a mouse then right clicking with the mouse will work. Most mice work with OS X fine.
The Delete button in the Mac keyboard is actually Backspace, just named differently. To actually delete something, try Command + Delete. -
More questions..
From Apple Store, can the Student Discount apply to any products, or just the brand new ones? Since there are refurbished MBPs available, I'm curious.
And, will Leopard cost more to upgrade? I don't want to buy a notebook that gets a newer version of OS the next month..
Aghh. -
.
Student Discounts can't go towards refurbished products. They can apply to everything else though.
And Leopard will cost $129 US (confirmed), and is expected to cost $69 US (unconfirmed, but most likely) with Student Discount. -
It feels hard thinking about paying $1800 to pay for a decent computer, but then having to spend $100 to get the better version in just a month...
Gahhh! -
Then wait for Leopard, sharpsees
.
Unless you want to take advantage of the Student Discounts. If so, get it now. You'll get more of a discount with the Student Discount than getting Leopard pre-installed. -
I'm guessing, wouldn't MBPs be loaded with Leopard, and still have Student Discount available?
And I read a lot on here about a free printer and nano that comes with MBPs, but all I can find on Apple Store is a free nano that comes after you do the rebate. What's up with that? -
Yeah, there's a free printer too. You actually have to pay for the Nano though, and then you send in the rebate to get your money refunded. Not sure if the printer is the same. -
Alright, I'm going to buy a 15"4 2.2Ghz MBP..
I just tried buying one, and it's $1999 + tax. How can I evade this tax, and where can I find the information on the free printer? I could only see the buy MBP and get free nano. I also couldn't find a place to put in my student discount information, although I swear I saw it yesterday.. -
But in Canada you do need to fill in Student ID for the university/college you go to. But I see you're in Ohio. -
For me on the canadian verson on the apple store(im assuming its the same) thers a small green link on every page that says something about a 130$ printer rebate offer. Also sometimes once you add your nano/ipood to the cart itll come up with a selection of printers.
Theres a special type of selection for the ipods, with the discounted prices as such, but for the printer you just pick it and put it int he cart.(130$CAD rebate)
The rebates are just some pdf's you download from the site and include you filling out various ordering information and serial numbers. -
I'll ring them up..

With rebate, I can get back money on the $300 spent on the printer and the nano.
But take off tax, and it's $1939.
Basically, I'm paying $1939 for the MBP, Cannon all-in-one printer, and a 4GB nano.
I'll update this after testing with no nano.. I don't need another mp3 player..
Maybe I can sell the nano.. -
If you're going to sell it, sell it as quick as possible. New iPods arriving on the 5th, lol.
-
Well, if it ships within 24 hours.. it should ship september 4th, arrive the 5th, depreciate..
Maybe if I order after the 5th after the price depreciation, the $199 rebate would actually bring me more money than I paid.. including lower tax..
Will the special touchpad functions work with boot camp?
