I'm getting a MBP for Graphic Design and some light gaming like World of Warcraft. Here is the specs im looking at
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB 667 DDR2 - 2x1GB SO-DIMMs
160GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
MacBook Pro 17-inch Widescreen Display
Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
Will the 7200 rpm's cause more heat or noise? And is it better to get the high resolution screen?
-
Yes those are pretty darn good specs for your requirements. The hard drive shouldn't cause much more heat / noise if any at all. It WILL increase your system's performance though. As for the high resolution screen, if you're into graphics design, I would consider it
-
im worried the resolution will make the text look too small
-
Those specs are very good, you should do ok with it -
It's certainly a possibility. I'd go to an Apple store and just use one for awhile. Part of the reason I went with the 15" for my design needs was because my previous 17" with 1920x1200 screen was a real pain to read.

Why there is no specification of video card? But I think that you have a lot of money to afford a 17 inch model. Envy you!

the video card is a 256 meg 8600m gt. it will more than meet your needs. 7200rpm hard drives do make more noise than lower rpm hdds. but the performance benefit is likely worth it. i would go with the system as you have it. nice.

Personally, I wouldn't do the high res screen, I like it where it is by default because that is just about the limit of my eyes. The high res, for me at least, would make text uncomfortably small.
-
Or since it's only $100 bucks more get the hi-res and turn it down when you are browsing the web, etc? Then when you are doing graphic work turn it back up? That's a novel idea.

If I didn't think you were serious I would just crack up laughing.
Those specs are fantastic! Not only did you choose the top of the line (so it wouldn't matter if we disagree with the specs) but you increased the hard disk. I would love a machine like that right now.
As far as the 1920x1200 screen, it would better suit a heavy gamer or graphic designer as you are or someone who needs an intense amount of screen real estate for the type of work they do. Otherwise I would recommend that you stay with the standard screen resolution 1680x1050 otherwise when web surfing you will find yourself increasing the font sizes. -
The 8600GT 256mb will eat WoW alive!
Will these specs be good?
