Hey all,
I ran a search regarding this issue, but there was no specific mention of this particular cable I have.
I currently have a 13" Unibody Macbook and I'm looking to hook it up to a 32" Sony Bravia LCD.
I am looking to purchase the Monoprice Mini-DP --> DVI dongle and hook that up with my Monster 400 HDMI to DVI cable.
I have the very same cable which I use to connect my HP desktop to my Sony LCD TV.
My only concern right now is what I read about DVI-I versus DVI-D. On the cable's packaging it says "SINGLE-LINK Connection ... For connecting HDMI to DVI components up to 1080i resolution"
I'm looking at the pins on the DVI portion of the cable and its group liked this:
9 pins (3x3) SPACE 9 pins (3x3) SPACE horizontal metallic piece.
The Monoprice adapter and the Apple adapter looks different in terms of the slots which the pins will go through.
I just want to make sure I have right components before I buy the adapter.
Any advice and input would be appreciated!
Thanks!

uh...just buy the Mini DP to HDMI cable from monoprice and forget about your monster cable.
You don't want adapters connecting to other adapters.
Dual Link DVI is for 30" LCD resolution, and single link can handle 1080p resolution. There are no HDTV's out there that can do higher than 1080p, so singlelink should be fine. Just go with MiniDP to HDMI cable from monoprice, its easier. -
I'm not going to connect two adapters together. Unless you're suggesting that the cable itself is an adapter since it goes from HDMI to DVI.
The only adapter I'll have is the Mini Displayport --> DVI.
The cable that I have is HDMI on one end, and DVI on the other.
So in the end, it's only NOTEBOOK --> ADAPTER --> CABLE --> TV.
What about that? -
i see what you mean.
That should work, but Mini DP > HDMI > TV would be better than
Mini DP > DVI > DVI/HDMI cable > TV
If you went the first route, you would have to buy an HDMI cable though. Anyway, your route should work. Single Link maxes out at 1920x1200. Double link is 2560xsomething.
Also remember that Mac's Mini DP does not carry sound. So you have to use the audio out on the laptop to get sound. -
Thanks for your help!
I have that cable lying around...so I think I'll just stick with the initial plan.
Thanks so much! -
Just one last thing.
The monoprice minidp adapater has a female single link dvi on the end.
Make sure your monster cable is male dvi to HDMI.
Female to your male cable
Will this Monster DVI --> HDMI cable work?
