I'm in the market for a good high performance mouse for both artwork and gaming. I am just wondering if this mouse will function in Mac OS X. On that page it only mentions Windows, however I'm not sure if they mean the mouse itself, or the programmable buttons and such. I don't really need programmable buttons on my Mac side, since I'll do my gaming on Vista, I'm just not too sure if the MBP would even recognize it when I plug it in while on OS X.

Also there's this one too which is pretty much built for Mac:

However, I'm not sure if this one will work in Windows with programmable buttons.

So please, any info concerning the compatibility if these mice would be appreciated.

Macs won't have any problem recognizing the mouse, but as you noted, may not be able to customize all the buttons and such (other than of course, the standard left and right click).

Thanks for the fast reply. Do you know if the sensitivity will be a problem? It's supposed to have degrees of sensitivity that are adjustable on the fly, which I am pretty sure won't work without the drivers, but can it be adjusted through my system settings instead?

The sensitivity adjusting buttons on my MX518 work right out of the box. Although, I am not able to adjust the sensitivity level at each of the settings. It just defaults to 400, 800, and 1600 DPI respectively.
You will be able to customise buttons for certain actions, such as Expose settings, but not for everything by default.

The on-the-fly adjustments of the Razer mouse may or may not work in OS X. I wouldn't get any Razer because their software for the Mac or Windows mouse is terrible. Every one I've tried to use, dating back to the old non-optical Boomslang, has had major bugs and stability issues.

A Logitech MX 518 or G5 would be a much better choice, as the on-the-fly sensitivity should work without needing to install drivers in either OS X or Windows. And if you need to customize the buttons in OS X, you can use Steermouse. It does cost money, but it works a heck of a lot better than Logitech's Mac software.

I use a razer copperhead (one generation before, if im correct) and it works perfectly fine in OSX.

As some people said, I'm pretty sure you can't customize the keys from within OSX, but you can do it in windows. (Im not sure if you can do it while running windows in parrallels and such, i havnt tried that yet)

On the fly sensitivity should work fine, because thats built into the mouse.

As for the software, I dont know what saturnotaku is talking about, because the software has worked perfectly fine for me. Maybe he hasnt used the newer versions or something, but its been fine and crash free on two pcs for me.

And sinse it has (id assume it does) mutiple profiles, you could have one profile setup for certain tasks(like graphics work) and if you cant customize it in osx, just switch to the other profile to do something else with the mouse.

So yea, I say get a razer mouse, and I just think that logitech mouses are crap compared to razers ;p

Thanks for all your input. Ordered the Razer. I took a look at the logitech mice, and they're pretty bulky, so I'd be more comfortable using the small, sleek Razers.
