I'm looking forward to getting that $30 copy of win 7 pro onto my MBP via bootcamp in the near future, and just wanted to see if anyone has done this already and have any tips/tricks/troubles to share

Install it like any other windows. You'll need to burn it to a DVD.

Yeah it's really no big deal. I haven't updated my signature yet but I have 7 ultimate and it goes on as long as you have a disk (which I got for $7 through my universtiy... win7 for $7 =D)

So let me get this straight:

You can do Win7 UPGRADE (not install from scratch) from WinXP in BootCamp?

How do I do a boot to Win7 Upgrade CD in Mac? If I press the Option button, I see only Mac, WinXP, and the CD itself. Then when I boot to Win7 Upgrade CD I jsut select the WinXP partition?

Sorry for all the question, because when I install WinXP using BootCamp, I have to use Mac BootCamp from OSX to BOOT to WINXP CD.

I loaded my win7 upgrade disk in my drive, booted into windows, and launched the setup file on the disk.

Can you give walk me through it or direct me to a good walk-through on how to do it? This is my first Mac and I've never installed Windows before.

    Thanks!

When you did, didn't Win7 had to reboot again to complete the install? When it does, did you just select "Windows" partition again from the Boot Manager?

yeah the machine had to reboot several times during installation. as long as you choose your windows partition, setup will continue where it left off.

HchorionicGT are you talking about a fresh install of windows or upgrading an existing windows partition?

You cannot use a win7 upgrade disc to jump from xp to 7. Xp users must get a full version of 7 and start from scratch with a clean install - this is true for PC and Mac users.

The current bootcamp drivers found on snow leopard discs work fine for 7...but the drivers work better in vista (in my opinion).

When sleeping in 7, it sometimes doesnt wake and once I load up 7 again, it tells me it's recovered from a serious error and the basic reason it gives is BSOD.

WRONG! I just created a new bootcamp partition and installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit with no major problems.

To get the bootcamp drivers to work I had to run the command prompt as admin, then navigating to "boot camp\drivers\apple" and running msiexec /i BootCamp64.msi

    after that, everything is peachy.

You may have some issues with your win741 upgrade download not creating the proper iso, but that can be fixed by following these steps(that's what I ended up doing).

I might be mis-reading the previous context of the articles but are you saying you have Windows 7 Ultimate "Upgrade" and were able to install it completely without a prior windows version currently installed. (I.e. I was under the impression you could only do that with a Non-Upgrade copy).

that's definitely news to me and news to all the major tech news outlets such as gizmodo and engadget. "upgrade" versions of microsoft operating systems have never been able to do a clean install before (unlike OSX where all discs are full versions regardless of what apple markets them as).

So hey if people are able to do clean installs with no prior operating systems on their computers by just purchasing the "upgrade" versions then all the more power to you guys.

It unpacks into a full ISO, I haven't seen anything out there that says you can't start from a clean slate.

Like I said in this post you don't have to do anything special(other than repackaging the ISO if you got a broken downloader) to install cleanly.

I may have repped you, but then you asked for it so you lost it... :nah:
