I'm normally on the Panasonic side but we've got a mbp that's a 2007/2008ish and I've set it up dual boot with Linux mint for my daughter and she loves Linux mint. The issue I'm starting to have is at her school they are doing everything on Windows. The Mac os is outdated and blah. Is there a way to just put Windows and maybe Linux on it? Or would I be stuck doing like a tri boot?

Not a good idea. Windows drivers for it aren't optimal. Battery life will suffer.

It isn't so old that you can't get it updated if you want. If you really need Windows in the house, there are a lot of cheap Windows computers available these days that might be worth picking up, depending on her software needs. I would think an HP Stream 11 would be a better solution than an old Macbook with a potentially fried battery.

Yeah, I've got the current 13 air and via bootcamp it's still a bit lacking. Constant driver issues and such. Skip it and get a cheap windows based PC.

I installed W7 on VirtualBox on OSX (15 inch rMBP) and it's pretty nice for what I need it for. I don't think that it would be all that useful for gaming but it's great for two Windows Apps that aren't available on OSX and that don't run 100% on WINE. My old MBP has XP on BootCamp and XP as a VM and I was tending more towards the VM version. The old MBP had HDDs though, so Windows was dog slow.
