I created a thread 2 years ago asking this. I'm just curious. I've been a Mac user for 14 years and I have no real use for Windows, but occasionally my I have to take online exams that require I.E. only and it forces me away from OS X. For that I do have a Bootcamp installation but I have no real need for Windows so I would buy a Mac regardless. Please participate in the poll and post your thoughts.![]()
Also, please keep the discussion civil and people from the Windows forum if you're here just to flame, then please don't post.

I have no need for Windows so not having access to it on my Mac wouldn't bother me a bit.
-
If you asked me this 4 years ago, I would've said No, because I still felt insecure moving into the then-unknown territory that was Mac OS X. However, now that the OS has become part of my daily life, I have to vote Yes.

Yes. Most certainly. Even if it can't run Windows, they've been running Linux since before the Intel transition, and they'll continue to do so. Windows 7 is a great OS, but OSX and Fedora/Ubuntu are where it's at.
-
well I bought a few macs when i switched to OSX from mainly Linux.. back when they were PPCs and couldn't run Windows... so yes, I have, and would still buy Macs that cannot run Windows.
-
If Macs couldn't run Windows, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy (another) one!
-
haven't got one yet... but I may in a couple days. MBP 15 with the nicer anti-glare screen... anyone know how good it is?
as for the poll. I want one for OS X I still have my PC for windows stuff. -
-
Yes, I would still buy a Mac, even if it was unable to run Windows.
-
Yes, I would still buy a Mac if it couldn't run windows. It's a great bonus that it can either through a VM or Bootcamp.
If it couldn't run Office (as in there was no Office for Mac) or couldn't handle Word files or wasn't able to use jpeg, gif, MP3, WMA, or ogg vorbis files then no. -
I don't have windows on my mac as of now, so wouldn't bother me, OS X woooo!!!

24yrs of using Macs here (25yrs for Apple in general w/ my IIe). Never once has the ability to run Windows (or any other OS on Apple hardware) been a criteria. It just gave and continues to give me an excuse to purchase more hardware as desired er, I mean required.

I use Windows to run my tax software and to do some Audio stuff that could be done on the Mac (I'm just used to the software on Windows and have been too lazy to learn how to do the same thing on the Mac). I have Windows boxes because I didn't like the iMac approach in the past. Now I'm thinking of replacing my home desktop (old Windows box) with an iMac. I have some old Windows laptops that I could run my tax software on.
I do have Windows on my MacBook Pro but only rarely boot to it. -

For me, Mac OS X > Windows in just about everything except gaming. If it weren't for Boot Camp I would have just bought a PC. I love the aesthetics of a Mac and I find OS X to be much more enjoyable for general use than Windows, but gaming support is much stronger on the Windows side. Thankfully, Apple has given me the best of worlds with Boot Camp.

I use TaxAct and have used it for many, many years.
-
I like both OS's. Both get the job done, including Ubuntu. I like having choices, and switching OS's is a new choice these days. Thank the heavens for virtualization software.
-
software for taxes...? sheesh... I do all mine in a web browser.

Even though I don't own a Mac, not running Windows would not affect my decision to buy one. I would still want one (if I had the money back then, I'd probably have gotten a PowerBook G4). The thing I've found with dual booting is that once I boot into a certain OS, I'd be too lazy to reboot into the other OS if I needed to do something. Instead, I'd either find a workaround (for Linux, that'd be WINE), or use the other OS more if I need it more often.

My 13" MBP is a secondary machine, but even still I'd snatch one up no matter what.
iWork (+ MS Office '11 soon) helps me take care of everything Office '07 does.....the iLife suite + apps like iBank only serve to sweeten the deal/fill in whatever gaps are left.
The only thing that would make me hesitate is their gaming potential. -
i have other laptops if I couldn't use my mac to run windows. so yes, I would've still purchased my macbook pro even if it were impossible to run windows on it. However, I do require windows for my Oracle development and to run specific software which my contracts/clients require.
I'm favorable to os x/unix/linux over windows. -
It's late (early?) and I misclicked and hit second option from top. But yes I would rebuy a mac again in a heartbeat. Jealous of my friends 15" MBP but my white macbook does all I ask of it with never a problem.
Plus it can still handle the occasional game when on the road so I don't have to keep my heavy ASUS on my lap, which would be.....lets say uncomfortable.
Loved Macs since I was a kid, going on around 15 years now and couldn't be happier
Though I must admit, running Ubuntu/Windows/OS X on it all at once is definetly convenient for getting things done even easier. -
How many ways can I write 'YES' ?
-
I'd probably have to choose the no option. While I'm sure I could use OS X full time without issue, It's nice knowing that if I wanted to, I could try out the latest version of Windows on it too.
Plus I like to tinker, what can I say?

It helps me out a tiny bit being able to run Windows on the Macbook Pro because there is a Windows-only application that my team use in emergencies.
However, the main reason that most people think about Windows on a Macbook seems to be related to the use of business applications. It has been my recent experience that Snow Leopard's Mail and iCal are a little faster and easier to use with our Exchange servers than the Microsoft applications are, and it's pretty easy to get files transferred between the Apple people and the Microsoft people.
So, it seems to me the bottom line is that as of right now in 2010, we stand a better chance than ever before of being able to do without Windows altogether, and I would probably have still bought my Macbook Pro if it did not run Windows.
-
I saw some rumors that Lion is supposed to add functionality to improve its usability in business environments so perhaps Apple will be working to close the gap with Windows there.
-
Eek. I'd have to buy another computer to run Steam SDK.
-
When I first bought my mac I would say no, but having used it for almost 2 years I would have to say.....I'd still buy it even if it couldn't run windows!
Haven't used my bootcamp partition in about a year (only used to play some TF2 before).
Would you still buy a Mac if it couldn't run Windows?
