    Except not with the April 7th update to Cinebench, with which OSX is comparable (actually slightly faster) than XP - take a look at the 3rd graph in the second link.

    Not surprising the Mac is faster - OS X has a much better allocation of system resources than XP does, which is also why it multitasks much better than XP systems. This isn't to say that XP is bad, but is badly in need of an update :)

    No matter what though apple will always have the OS edge simply because of their closed hardware standpoint. very limited choices so OSX is optimised more. Hopefully VIsta will be better than XP.

    Well, that's what makes Apple a unique company - they control everything that they make (well, aside from the raw components/materials of course), ensuring everything works seamlessly. Apple's main choking point is its software compatability as you've pointed out already. Vista is basically a beauty make-over for Windows IMO. The only new thing that it brings to the table are much needed security updates/features.
