Ok so just got my 3rd macbook, the latch is actually not loose thank god.
Apple logo got a small scratch on it, weird.
Now the thing that bothers me is, every single Macbook I've gotten has this weird clicking/ticking noise every 15th second which an apple engineer and an apple repair outlet has told me is defect. My dilemma is I remember 2 of the 3 MBPs having it, and all 3 Macbooks have it, what are the chances of that? Is it really a defect? :S Its really annoying though but Im getting really tired of getting my notebooks exchanged all the time.
Does your Macbooks/Macbook Pros make this weird noise also?
-
mine only does this when you move it suddenly, that is, shake it...
-
all of mine do/did that constantly when they're in stationary mode, I rarely move them.

mine does it, but not very often.
-
Hum, a clicking ticking noise every 15 seconds or so?
Nope i dont have that. -
my past and current MBPs have no type of ticking noise... ever really... let alone every 15 seconds. Sometimes I can hear the fans when they are spinning like 5000-6000 RPM.. but usually the entire thing is very quiet
-
Nope, no clicking noise here, everything is fine... *knock on wood*
-
Incidental tick once every... well, it's hard to say. Not often. I will check whether it happens while I have the MBP on my lap. When I have it stationary, it runs silent.
You have a one year warranty on your new MacBook. My advice, if you're tired of exchanging it, is to see this as a trial period of one month. Take this unit for a ride, install everything you intend to use, and put it to the test. If after a month, you're still not happy with it, get it exchanged. Over the course of a month, your expectations also change. The ' unboxing' moment is when you want everything to be perfect: even a dust piece inside the box can make me panic. But now I've been using my MBP, I feel much more relaxed and happy with it.
Give yours a chance... -
i have had this on my 1+ year old vaio since day one. haven't notice this on my new mb.
i have come to the conclusion that it is just the hd parking it's heads when there are no hd activities.
of course, i may be wrong ... -
The clicking noise might be the HD parking its head to save power. Go to System Prefs>Energy Saver, and make sure "Put HD to sleep when possible" is unchecked.
-
I have no problem with using it, but the previous notebooks which had this noise started getting hot/bad performance and sometimes even crash for no apparant reason, thats the only reason I would exchange it. And if the HDD is defect and would crash some day I wouldnt really be happy to loze all my data.
The noise is audible and annoying but I can live with it, there are more noisy things in life such as stupid neighbors when you live in a flat. -
Tried that, it still makes the noise.
