tried 3 different ones (both b/g and n) all the same. also tried at a friends place with the same problems. I am sure its caused by the latest airport update. Dlink 655, Dlink 524, and apple's one. Works good for a bit then signal drops off. Did read some others on apple's discussions forum are having same problem.

Interesting. I was having problems before the latest update. Now, everything is working perfectly.

Does this happen on battery or AC power (or both)? The reason I ask is because most of the airport issues have been with connecting or sustaining connections while on battery power. I will say this, my connection is a lot more stable if I use G only. Once I force N connections, it's a crap shoot. I have heard connections are a lot more stable if you're using a draft 2 N router (airport extreme, Linksys WRT150N) than the draft 1 ones (WRT350N, WNR854T, DIR-655).

This type of problem isn't exclusive to the airport. There are all kinds of cross-compatibility problems with different pre-draft N chipsets.

In general, I think it's best to avoid Airport updates unless you already have a problem with your Airport card. These things seem to cause more problems than they fix.
