do you think it's a good idea to get an iPad for things you would do on a PC or a MAC?
I mean, would you get an iPad instead of a PC or a MAC as in to do the things they would be doing for you?
and what do you think of the iPad?
what would you use it for?

If it was running a more native OS towards mac then definately,
I'd use it alot, -
why?
what's with the OS? -
The iPad is cute but it is what it is, a giant iTouch. Or if you will a iTouch is just a MiniIpad. The iPad is nice to browse the internet with and play a few iPhone/iTouch related games but thats about it. Sure you could connect a keyboard to it but why the hell would you do that. For 500$ you could buy a real computer or even a second hand macbook. Only 256MB ram limits the multitasking severely when the OS 4.0 drops. (already testing multitasking with my iPad that is jailbroken, its pretty weak.)
iPad = laying back on the couch browsing the internet with the feeling that you spent way too much but none the less its quaint to not have a giant laptop burning a hole in the pants. -
It all depends on what you plan to do with the iPad. Email is good as long you don't have an exchange account where your work won't allow you to use mobile devices. Web browsing is good as long as you don't frequent flash sites. You can store pictures, video and audio on it but the space is limited. You can find apps that will do many of the tasks you use a pc or Mac for but not everything. In many cases the apps are nowhere near as powerful as programs on a regular computer. Even Steve Jobs said during the keynote to announce the iPad that is wasn't a notebook replacement and was made to fill the void between a smartphone (iPhone) and a notebook.
Job's description of the iPad was spot on so if you haven't seen the keynote I suggest you check it out. I use the iPad to surf the web, check email, watch movies, listen to music, store pictures, play games, read magazines, read books and use a bunch of different apps. In many cases the iPad has replaced my MBP but it is not a full replacement.
I bought the camera kit and tried it out last weekend on a boat outing. I wanted to see how well I can use it on vacations to store pictures from my camera each day. I took about 200 pictures that day and within 10 minutes I had them transferred to the iPad to show off and weed out any bad shots. While I could have emptied the contents of the camera's SD card right then I waited until I got home just to be sure the camera kit wasn't changing anything. After syncing to my MBP I confirmed that the camera kit did a great job of storing and allowing me to view and edit my photos ( RAW mode ).
Anyway if you have any questions post them and we will try to answer them. -
The only thing quaint here is your referral to the iPod Touch as an iTouch. -
thanks everyone
can I have a list of interesting applications I can use with the iPad?
does it have any applications that are exclusively for it and I can't use by other Apple's products (ex. iPod Touch)? -

Sounds to me like you want an iPad and just need someone to convince you that it isn't a complete waste of money.
I'm sure someone on here will fill that role, it won't be me though. Get a real computer. -

I'm curious about Ipads also. Not for me but a gift. If you already have a laptop so don't need a cpu or netbook. An Ipad is good for browsing the web, Facebook, watching movies, music and pretty much goofing off in your spare time?? I'm guessing thats what it's for and that what you want to do. The memory is there a big advantage in the different Ipads??

I was gifted the 3G 64 gb model just the other day. I was told that there was a 50% restocking fee if opened. I made a bad choice in opening it. Strongly considering selling it on ebay. If anyone is interested I will sell it for msrp (829). It has a accidental protection plan, I'm not sure if that will be transfereable.
It does non flash Internet very well, and is brilliant for emails. It simply doesn't fit into my needs however. The windows 7 phone I will get in november and my envy 14 w/ 3G render this redundant and clumsy. -
Other than the memory size the only difference is if you get the 3G model.

its only a waste of money if you buy it without really needing it.... its not designed for everyone. I have a friend with one and she loves it to death, and does all kindsa stuff on it now. Just stating its a "waste of money" is a rather narrow view.

I don't think anyone really wants to get into the "want" vs. "need" conversation anywhere at NBR.

i bought mine for school to be honest... my laptop (XPS16) is too big to carry.
Internet Browsing, YouTube, e-mail is enough for me. i also use it for video (airvideo, connects to your pc over internet and plays all the videos in a directed folder via live conversion), and regular video player + music in lunch time.
For notes, typing isn't too bad to be honest.
I mainly bought it so i can try out putting textbooks, etc in the device. If it doesn't work out, I'm probably going to sell it and get a netbook instead.
yesterday i found few things the ipad couldn't do that i needed it to do (i was kinda pissed, i knew it was coming) it was to share network printers and external hdds. oh well, i bought an Acer Revo for that use. -
By the way your signature makes it seem like you think the Envy 14 is perfection anymore. -
