Thanks, I'll check it out, but I already wen ahead and got the undercover software, it's really good. I like that fact that they will also work with the police, but having another software on here wouldn't be a bad idea, :) hehe... got to put my 8g of ram to work for me somehow! lol

    BTW.
The police in general dosen't give a **** about small crime like this.

I work in the home-security industry. When your house gets broken into, alot of the police won't even go in to check it out. They just drive up to your door, do a visual inspection from their car, and leave.

Even if you have a photograph of the robber and know exactly where he is with gps, alot of police are still just too lazy to follow up. Generally, any theft with low value is ignored - the police have "more important" things to do.

Also, a photograph of the robber isn't enough to prove he stole your laptop. The most they can do is retrieve it for you.

On the bright side. I think I read a newspaper article about the police actually following up on a laptop theft once. It was on a campus, and the campus police retrieved it.

As much as I would like to agree with you, it can be proven they stole the laptop. With undercover you can lock the computer and display a message that the laptop has been stolen and your number, if they do not contact you, they know it is stolen property and did nothing about it (guilty). Also $1300 is not a small crime.

Police in my town are pretty good i goes.... lol really, I"LL GPS AND TRACK MY LAPTOP! lol

I have a question for you. I don't have this program and don't know how it works:

Assuming that "undercover" is a program and installed on your hard drive. (Not an actual physical device)

Whats to stop the thief from taking the whole hard drive out and put in a new one.
(OR simply just reformatting the original drive, but for dramatic effect)
Than undercover will no longer be on your laptop and unable to protect it.

BTW, replacing the hard drive is a process that takes less than 5 mins.
Oh and I'll add, that replacement hard drive costs less than what you paid for undercover

And also. I was talking about the movie thing - throw a gps tracker under their car! and have a picture of them!. The point is, police don't care about small crime.

Also, I was talking about much larger crimes. Cleaned out office's / small businesses involving much more than a $1300 laptop. Police don't follow up. Than again, you might be living in a different country / place where police take these things more seriously.

I'm in the US. To say all police don't care would be an unfair generalization.
Once could change the HD, laptop lost. One can not do a fresh install without, the password.

actually doing a fresh install without a password is easy especially on the MBP , MBA is a tiny bit tougher:

if there is no EFI ( hardware ) password you just boot from a dvd or usb copy of OSX and from there wipe and reinstall or delete/change password

if there is an EFI password on the MBP you pull the bottom off and remove a stick of ram or add one and then the ram mismatch lets you in to remove password. MBA requires you to unsolder and lift a leg on a ram chip or short out 3 legs on it.
