what does "ID" in the title refer to?

Anyway, if you're referring to the announcement at WWDC, Electronic Arts will be bringing Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Need for Speed Carbon, Battlefield 2142, Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars, and later on Madden NFL 08 and Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08.

So are Macs actually going to start having decent gaming video cards? I somehow doubt it...

? The 15" Macbook Pro has the best gaming GPU currently available in 15" laptops in the world.

You didn't specify the system or the graphics card. "Macs" is rather generic, "decent" is subjective, and seeing how we're in a laptop forum, I assumed you were referring to the laptops.

mac's have ALWAYS had really good graphics cards in their laptops.

honestly since as far back as i can remember...

but they haven't really ever had much software support for it. even today, its pretty abysmal. quake 4 is well and good, but it runs MUCH better on xp. most people don't play mmorpg's, but, granted, a lot do, and blizzard support is a good thing.

still- i expect these games to run much better on xp. osx needs some gpu driver reworking to match the demand.

if games ran just as good on osx as xp, i would not use windows ever again.

I had assumed this thread was meant more outside of the context of laptops because, well... people actually play games on laptops?

Sorry but the thought of playing almost any of those games mentioned on a laptop just seems... stupid.

How so? I can't speak for the rest of the games, but from my own experience, C&C3 scales down extremely well. You don't even need a GPU as good as the 8600M GT play it or to get enjoyment out of it (although I guess that'd depend on how important graphics and effects are to you - to me they're not important at all in a strategy game).

And of course people play games on laptops. Why else would anyone put a consumer GPU in one to eat up battery life?

C&C 3 was the ONLY one on there that looked like it may be ok on a laptop. The others, well... maybe my expectations for game graphics and performance are just too high. And other games (like Madden) are generally more of a multiplayer game, personally I think games like that are even kinda odd on a PC nevermind a laptop, they just seem much more appropriate on consoles with TVs and couches and a group of friends.
