Do you need proof of being a student to get the student discount and to be eligible for the free nano rebate?
-
I don't believe so...sometimes I try to find the Student Discount pricing and I choose a university in the US that I don't actually go to, and it just lets me go right to choosing a Mac and checking out.
However, if the Apple Canada site you do need to enter Student ID for the university you attend. I don't think the Apple US site requires this. -
I know dell, alienware and hp require a student email or some type of verification.....but the discounts are kinda crappy at only 12% on select notebooks that your school chose
-
I didn't need to fill out any additional info when getting the student discount on my MBP, other than selecting the school I go to in the web page. I wish Leopard would come out before the student discount period ends on September 16th... so I can apply the student discount to that as well.
-
Remember, we won't put up with people trying to defraud companies.
-
September 16 is the deadline for the Mac + iPod deal. Qualifying students will be able to purchase Leopard through the Apple Store for Education indefinitely for $69 upon release. I'm assuming that history will repeat itself - Tiger was available at this same discounted price.
-
Eternal is correct, there is an Education pricing all throughout the year. Its just right now the promotion is education pricing + free iPod. You can get education prices throughout the year.
-
If I remember correctly, back when I bought my iPod off Apple.com (about 2 years ago now so it might have changed in the mean time) there was absolutely not verification/confirmation needed. If you read the fine print, students, teachers, faculty, and even parents of students are all eligible. I think even family of teachers & faculty are eligible. It's a pretty lax standard really.
-
They give bigger discounts to bigger schools, keep that in mind. And no, they do not verify.
-
No, Apple does not give bigger discounts to bigger schools. Show me some evidence.
-
And Apple gives you 10% or less on computers...
-
I was just going off what a guy that worked for apple told me a few years ago when i was looking at a mac for myself.
-
Well, here is some evidence to support my claim.
The Ohio State University - approximately 51,818 students.
Miami University - approximately 20,126 students.
Those are just the base model prices for two public universities in Ohio. [No PhotoShopping was done, I promise, please check for yourself if you think otherwise.] If anyone has found prices to be different for a particular university (public or private) in the USA, please send me a PM. -
Thats fantastic.
-
Nah, I'm positive it's standard. The page for UNCC (my school) of about 22K students has the exact same prices, although interestingly the school's 'official' custom Apple Store page does require your student e-mail, but seeing as the prices are the same, you can just bypass that by using the Apple.com Student Store.

can somebody please tell me how i (still a highschool student) can figure out a way to receive this discount?
-
They have an option for K-12 schools on the website.
-
thanks for the repies. Does anyone else find it ridiculous that they charge $150 more for black?
-
Actually, quick question here. I will be in the market for a new laptop soon, and I was planning to wait until about next Spring or so. I am pretty set that the next purchase will be a Mac. Has Apple ever offered the iPod rebate before? I don't really need a new laptop now (my M90 is overall ok besides the battery). But I'd really hate to pass up a free iPod (had a 1st gen nano but took it back since it scratched so easily and didn't have quite enough storage space). Does anyone think they'll offer this again next year? (Yeah, I know, asking for speculation, but humor me... I've been here a while
)

Yes, I am almost 100% sure I saw the Mac + iPod deal last summer. And nice new avatar by the way
.
-
That's what I was thinking.
Yeah, I've had that avatar for several months, so I felt like a new one. All the mods were going with a Star Wars theme, so I thought I'd follow suit.
Of course, after applying the new avatar, I then realized my previous one was of Darth Vader!

stealthsniper96 What Was I Thinkin'?
true, but it says "teacher or staff member". will they not check it? im confused -
Well, I don't think they check it. I don't know. But you have a pretty new system, so why not just wait a while till you're in college? It's better than cheating the system. I think you can call Apple or something though if your school requires it... other than that, not sure.
Oh, and back to the whole "discounts are larger for larger schools," I beg to differ. See the attachment (yes, that says "Homeschool Store.")Attached Files:

Yes, fortunately i'm more found of white though
-
I wish they did especially since like 1/3 of the computers at CMU are mac's
-
If you are a high school student, you are not eligible to receive any education discount from Apple.
Maybe you could talk to a family member or friend who is a college student and ask them to get you the discount?
Anyway, I went to the Apple Store on Sunday and they did not check my Student ID at the cash register. Considering they did not ask for my student number at the Apple Store, I am assuming they don't need to verify anything. -
Well, it depends on the person. The first person I spoke didn't check, unfortunately they did not have MBP I wanted in stock that day. The second time I visited the Apple store, another worker asked me for my college ID. Because I haven't received one yet, I had to log into my university email to prove that I was a student, which was annoying and in a way, ridiculous.
-
oh good I just read the above reply. I was planning on going down to the Apple store and seeing if I could get the student discount. I have my student ID and e-mail address, but I'm not taking any classes this semester. I was just curious if a student ID is all they needed. I think it's quicker to buy from the store than wait for shipping, if I'm not customizing anything.
-
I may have to bite on this deal

Just to make my negligible contribution: I was on the phone a moment ago, talking to a representative from the Apple Store in Chicago; he told me a letter of acceptance would also do, if you didn't have your ID Card yet.
-
As for the iPod + laptop discount, I've seen this since the days of the G4 iBook and mini iPods, so this is really nothing new or unique for Apple.
-
Yeah, they accept a lot of things as proof...I've heard you can use Student ID, confirmation letters, and you can even just log onto your account on the school website.
-
Yeah, I'm really hoping to get an updated Macbook/Macbook Pro with Montevina and a newer iPod sometime next year. New car comes first though, especially when this M90 is only about a year and a half old.
-
If you are a student though, i would advise on actually going to your bookstore and seeing if they have their own pricing. My school puts up a plaque with their discounts, which are a little cheaper then their online advertised student discount.
-
My school barely acknowledges Apple (or anyone besides MS) exists in the computer world. They just this year started advertising the fact that Apple will give you a student discount.
