Just select "Backup Address Book" under the File Menu; and a single ".abbu" file will be created which contains all the relevant info (including pictures). This file can then be imported under another instance of Address Book easily.

In that case choose export if you have your Mac still and export them as vCards or something that is more universal. You could also try importing the .abbu file into Windows Contacts, although I doubt that would work. If you have a friend with a Mac you could always import them there into its own address book then export them. Another option is to try and find a way to convert it, but that may be hard to do.

On a side note, this is why I hate proprietary backups. They are worthless if you stop using the software that made them. For most people exporting the contacts to a file is a much better solution.

don't forget you can also use iSync, if your phone is compatible to have another backup of all your contacts, as well as a way to back up the contact information on your phone.

if you have a bluetooth phone that isn't supported, start googling because someone has probably written a plug in for it.
