linux distro with better out-of-the-box support for an i5 macbook pro than ubuntu 10.10?
ubuntu 10.x has some issues with the i5, as well as a few totally unrelated game-breaking openGL bugs that impede the project I am working on - so the hunt is on.
I want stable, compatible with macbook pro hardware as much as possible out of the box, minimal fixes. 32 bit or 64 doesn't matter to me.

What about Linux mint? Main Page - Linux Mint
Or even Pinguy OS: http://pinguy-os.sourceforge.net/ -

I'll try mint.
Obviously, I can't use Pinguy, it's just Ubuntu 10.10 with pre-done tweaks. It will still have the same hardware support issues as Ubuntu 10.10 with my machine, and it will still have the 10.10 oGL bug. -
Linux Mint is very nice.. but it is Ubuntu based
-
There is now a Debian derivative for Mint too now....definitely worth consideration!
-
I'll second Mint - I'm currently typing this from Mint 10 and have found it fantastic.
Try out avant-window-navigator too once you install it -

I'm pretty sure that Linux Mint is debian based. Is that incorrect?
If it's debian based, it shouldn't have the ubuntu specific bug. Still not sure about the hardware support in linux mint though... -
originally it was only ubuntu based, and the main version still is... but like pointed out above, they have a debian based version now too.
best linux distro for macbook pro i5, ubuntu 10.10 not cutting the mustard.
