I wanted a mac for a while (I have never owned a mac before or even used one), and when I went to the store to see about buying a macbook, I left really wanting a macbook pro after HATING the screen on the macbook.
I've been almost buying one for about 2 weeks now, but been put off by the price tag, and whether i'd be as productive as I currently am with Windows.
A few minutes ago....I.......I.......I did it![]()
I went to apple.com and configured a macbook pro with the following specs:
Macbook Pro
2.5Ghz Processor
4GB Ram
320GB HDD @7200
Dual graphics thingy with 512mb etc...
.........and then I typed in my Apple ID, and then I pressed "place order"![]()
Result? "Thankyou for your order"![]()
The damage is £1,746.01 ($2,481.03)
I feel sick![]()
I just hate spending money....it....it....it just happened![]()
New Macbook Pro on the way though! Whoo hoo! \o/![]()

I guess they don't call you captain fail for nothing.
Congrats on the purchase, I'm sure you'll love it.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Congrats on the overpriced generic x86 PC.

Since you mentioned you've never used a Mac before, I'm not sure if it was a good idea.
At least do the following. Try not to have high hopes, it'll only lead to disappointments. I would've suggest you do research for a while and compare and contrast the benefits versus that of a PC/Windows. There will be a learning curve and it won't be pretty. You will become frustrated as features and controls are DIFFERENT.
I've been doing research on the MacBook for approximately 6-7 months. It isn't thorough, but what I did was take an objective approach and listed what I typically use my laptop for. I visited the Apple store on multiple occasions to familiarize myself and took the time to learn the software and how it's setup. So my switch won't be as bad. Good Luck. -

Captain Fail,
Congrats on the purchase! I am sure that you have read the hundreds of threads on this board and on others about some of the common issues with the unibody mbps. My advice: forget them. When you get your computer, see if you notice any issues and if it bothers you. If you looking on the internet you will only find those issues to popup on your system and you will never be satisfied with the purchase. -
So generic :*(
Troll post has trolled -
Congrats on the purchase. You're gonna love it. I've owned everything from Vaios to Dell XPS to HPs and nothing, and I mean nothing compares to a macbook pro. Those who don't know that, are those who have never owned one, it's as simple as that.

hello all
I just bought a 15 in Macbook Pro Laptop and I love it even with its quirks on the learning curve. I had my last PC for at least 7 years along with headaches of downloading patches for window vulnerabilities and potential risks
As well as conflicts with third party memory hogs. But that was my world and I dealt with as long as I could . When the opportunity arose financially I researched the new Mac book for what I would want or need out of these computers. I also had a Mac emulator program running on top of my windows platform. called FlyakiteOSX which changed specific system files to emulate and look like a Mac computer. so I had a idea how the Mac system work and I look at tutorials as well
So I have no complaints yet . -
CONGRATS to the original poster! GREAT laptops. -
Congrats man, hope you ll like it

I agree the MBPRO is awesome but spec wise the dell rocks it. Not saying id go back to dell. Apple is too strong in terms of how everything works together seamlessly.

I think you are going to like your new MBP. You probably should of done some more research before making your purchase but its too late now

Hey JM, I was looking at your signature, and I was wondering if your Macbook is the Black on or the White one, just for reference purposes.

I bought my first Mac about two years ago. I develop Windows software for a living... a good living... and I have to admit that I have never found another laptop to compare to my Macbook Pro. I run Windows in Parallels and it runs Windows better than any other laptop that I've ever owned, and I've owned a bunch. I'm sure I wasted thousands of dollars on Dells, Sonys, Acers, Lenovos, etc., but nothing compares to a Mac for reliability, quality of components, and service... although, I've never really needed much service.
My only wish is that they would refresh the line more often because I love buying new laptops.
Congratulations! And if you're like the typical Windows user who is just fed up with poor support, poor quality, poor design, you'll be more than happy with your Mac.
Don't think of it like you're switching from Windows to Mac, you're really switching from Windows only to Mac & Windows. -

OP: it was money well spent. congrats on the purchase.

Congrats on making the move. As for the negative comments: I find they are usually people who are either afraid to make the move to Apple, jealous or a bit of both. I used to be afraid and would justify my fear with the same comments they make. Makes me feel kinda silly when I think of the time I wasted on Windows systems before getting the MBP.

But I think Windows is by far the best choice for 90% of people. I'm not afraid of the Apple platform, I just think is it an inferior product that is just right for a niche market. I don't want to turn this into yet another futile Mac vs PC vs Linux vs My Mother debate, I am just saying - taking your reasons for previously bashing Macs and claiming it's a universal reason is foolish. Most PC users use PC over Mac not because they fear Macs, but because they can achieve what they need on their computers more effectively with a PC. I have many computers, and only one is a Mac (PPC G5, OSX 10.5). I use one of my computers, or a combination several hours a day. The Mac probably gets 3 hours of use a month. -
-
I will break it down into two sections:
Hardware:
While apple makes some awesome stuff aesthetically...
My family has owned probably 30-40 macs over the years, and I have found that their failure rate is no lower than that of PCs. In fact, my G5 has had some many failures, the logic board has been replaced 3 times, but apple refuses to replace the whole system. It's now starting to have issues again, and the system is out of warranty. This isn't a one time thing either, I've had issues with other Macs while older Hewlett Packards (my least favorite PC brand, period) have outlasted them.
I have purchased several Macs since then, including an Intel G5 and and Intel Mini, however, I will no longer be buying Macs.
The premium paid is for the brand name, primarily. People claim it's because you get OSX, but it's not in my opinion. I'll get into this more in the software section.
Software
The proprietary operating system is a pain. It's not that I don't know how to use it - though I do admit, my knowledge of OSX is fairly limited when compared to Windows. My issue is that OSX is more about gimmicks than functionality. That, and there's no software written for it compared to PCs - even the software important to industries that use primarily Macs (such as Adobe products, where updates are released for PCs far before Macs - also note, this is not a inferiority of Apple, but directly related to the fact that they have a small market share. Whoever is at fault though, it's a reason I see not to use OSX/Apple products). It seems many people who buys Macs are putting Windows on it anyway. There's little compatibility issues interfacing a PC with a Mac these days, so it seems like using OSX only provides disadvantages, except in the niche market - people using the software that you can only get in OSX. -
-
congrats Captain
Enjoy

Hep,do you know that OS X market share has passed 10% and Win is still falling down?if apple is that niche, why is that number growing?
-
aside from the endless diatribe between mac and W. I think from a financial point of view putting that much money into a technology that in less than a year will be obsolete doesn't make any sense. I was gonna get a Sony, then I thought about it and got a dell with 3 year warranty for HALF the price and the same specs. I would never wanna put too much money into technology. Most computers can do what average users need to do. It's just a marketing scheme.
-
-
in fact I didn't even mention macs in my post, I mentioned SONY. you really didn't get my point. -
-
They haven't bought it, but only love it and prefer it to windows because Steve Jobs and his marketing team have hypnotised them into loving an inferior product. -
-
I agree with not putting too much money into technology as I believe that as soon as the product released its already out dated and another verison is just down the road from you

bought a new Mac
