What are the differences and any preference on the keyboard of the MB vs the Pro?
thanks

They're pretty different styles of keyboards. The most noticeable difference perhaps is that the MacBook keys are flat on top, while the MBP keys are more contoured like a typical keyboard. The MacBook keys are also more separated from each other (although the actual spacing is essentially the same).
In terms of feel, it really is a matter of personal preference. For what it's worth, I actually like both styles of keyboards, but they both have very different feels. I would venture to say that the MBP keyboard feels more like a regular keyboard, but it is a bit "soft" perhaps. The MB keyboard feels more rigid, because the keys are almost like, say, calculator keys (actually, I think that should give you an idea of the style they are)..... obviously it's not like typing on a calculator though. -

Only if you sell it right. I mean spell it right.
Take your pick... in this case they both work.

Hmmm, come to think of it, which keyboard is heiman5 using?
-

Nice.

As zadillo said, they're really different keyboards. In the end its personal preference.
The MacBook Pro's keyboard can be illuminated, which is a nice feature, while I really like the way the MacBook's keys are spaced out. I thought the space between the keys would make it awkward to type on, but I actually find its very easy to type on as well as a nice looking design.
The only way to really know is to test out both yourself. The MacBook keyboard is a pretty new design, and some PC manufacturers are starting to follow the design, while the MacBook Pro is the more standard design but with backlighting. -
Is it possible to replace the keyboard on an MBP with that of a MB?
-
^ definitely not. they are different sized and completely different designs.
I would have to say the MacBook keyboard is better right now, because it has the new improved layout with all the new shortcut keys, which are extremely useful, I am sure the MBP wil get this new layout soon and maybe even the new style of keyboard at some point, as all other models are using it and it really is an excellent design.
the best keyboard on any Apple machine is probably the MacBook Air, as it uses the new layout, new button design, and is back lit, but the best Apple keyboard you can get right now would be their new full size aluminum wired keyboard ^_^ best keyboard I have ever used. -
I agree. The wired aluminum keyboard is very nice. Does it light up in low-light conditions like the MBP does?
-
no unfortunately not, but honestly, since the keys are white with the keynames in a dark gray, it really isn't necessary.

I'm not a huge fan of the keyboard on the MBP. You have to press the keys quite firmly to get them to register, and I end up missing keys because of this ALL the time, and it's REALLY annoying. You can actually push ANY key in and have it not register it, if you push it softly enough.
I LOVE my Bluetooth external keyboard (which is like the MacBook keyboard), and yes - it's miles better than the MBP keyboard.
This said, I haven't used my MBP keyboard a ton, so maybe it gets better after hundreds of hours of use. The display model at my Best Buy has the same problems, so it's not just my MBP.
Give me an updated MBP with the MB keyboard, and I'm there. Don't get me wrong, the MBP keyboard isn't awful, and you "sort-of" get used to it, but it's not as good as the MB keyboard. -
No, it doesn't. It'd be pretty cool if it did
.

I have a MBP, but also have the MB-style wired keyboard. I personally prefer the MB layout - I do miss keys sometimes from sliding (very rarely), but it just feels very solid and I like the flat keys. The MBP keyboard, though I like it as well, is "mushier" to me and has a bit too much action. I'd say go to an Apple store and give both a shot if you're curious.
