a lot of times when i let the magsafe get magnetically attracted to the port, it aligns crookedly (the side-butt round part of it sticking up a little bit) and I gotta push my thumb down to align it in place, flush with the machine edge. I can also do this and it will land straight but not if I'm being sloppy and careless with the magnetic attraction -- more so than the other 3 unibody MacBook Pro's I've had with the same macbook air charger).
Do you think the cable is defective
Hmmm yeah it stills seems to be doing it with my computer.
Tried it on my buddy's classic MacBook Pro (the magsafe adapter) and it does the same thing.
Also, tried the classic adapter on mine and it has the same fit as on his. So I don't think it's my port, I think the cable is either defective or just more strongly magnetized and needs to be corrected with a push or something.
What do you think? The computer is otherwise great, and a swap from another machine. Do you think the apple store will let me swap out the magsafe cable or something alone?
Sick of dealing with apple and making trips to the store. I feel like everything I get in some form or fashion is defective (when it comes to electronics).

I think you answered the question your self. Now it's up to you to decide if it's worth taking it back for such a little problem that is not even worth the gas to the Apple store.

mines stuck on at an angle a few times... don't think its a big deal... the light doesn't come on and i push the thing down.

Alright thanks doh.
I really want to get an SSD for this puppy -
Yup happened to mine as well. I think it's because of the new design.
Not a huge issue. If you don't see the green/orange light, it's not properly aligned and you have to adjust it. Simple as that... -
yeah good point. it didnt do this with the other 13" i had, but who cares i guess right? Everything else is perfect, so whatever.

mine happened a few times when it was brand new... but it doesn't anymore... maybe worked itself in better... I keep trying to get it to go in wrong and it just wont anymore.

You could take it to the apple store and ask if you can replace it with a classic square plug in adapter. I don't see why they wouldn't work with you on that. If it's not to your satisfaction or faulty they should please the customer and simply swap it out. They can use the one your trading in for a floor model.
defective magsafe adapter?
