if i use the function keys on the keyboard the speaker popup comes up all the block are white but they wont go down and theres the NO sign (for muted) i cant change it with any of the keys

when i go into preferences and audio out i only have these devices:
    Digital out
    motorola s9

it didn't happen after you set up a bluetooth device did it? that could be the only possible thing besides the hardware failing. but that seems fairly unlikely unless the machine was dropped etc.

That seams very weird... I'd give Apple a call if you don't find anything that works in this thread. If it's not a hardware issue they'll walk you through how to fix it. If it is they'll repair it.

either call them or go to a store if theres one around. i would reccomend doing it in person over doing it over the phone.

yea it happened after the blue tooth device- after i watched a few episodes of bones with my headphones last night and now unplugging the headphones the speakers seem to work alright now. i didnt even do anything but they are working... kinda weird. thanks for the help nonetheless :)

note: now instead of digital out it says internal speakers... ??? lol

Sounds like the switch that is used to switc between headphones and digital optical out is acting up.
