This is the 2nd time this had happened. All of a sudden, I can't bring up my dock anymore. So I'm left dock-less, and the only way to bring it back is to restart.
WHy/how do you think this happens?
-
I'm interested in hearing this as well. I've had it happen once and it really freaked me out.
Everything else was running. No crashing. But the dock just suddenly disappeared. I even tried altering the dock settings (Quicksilver was still operational) but nothing could bring the dock back. Except a reboot.
What gives? -
Try typing killall Dock into Terminal to reboot the dock - though I have no idea why it's crashing in the first place.

yeah that worked... but I'd still like to know why this happened. My brother tells me he ran into the same problem once as well.
-
I finally recreated it. The two bugs that are driving me insane.
1) When running a busload of programs, switching from the DVD Player to iCal causes my entire system to crash. Solution: stop using DVD Player. (What can I say? I'm simple.
)
2) When streaming online video, should my screensaver pop on and I immediately jiggle the mouse to make it disappear, the desktop reappears but the dock does not!! (I believe I was in fullscreen mode during the streaming video)
Sure enough, I bring up Terminal via Quicksilver, type in killall Dock (yes, the D must be capitalized), and everything reappears with no issues at all.
Weird.
dock disappearing?
