I got a dlink usb wifi stick and it came with an extension cable and dock so you plug the tick into the dock and can move it independently of the laptop/desktop machine to improve the signal. I guess other makes of usb wifi sticks have the same.
here's a link to a draft n dlink one which mentions the cradle.. http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DWA-130-Wireless-USB-Adapter/dp/B000QDBOCY
you'll probably find one cheaper elsewhere but I just pasted it for info! -

(this sort of thing http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?TabID=1&criteria=usb&ModuleNo=97266&doy=search&C=SO&U=Strat15)
this wouldn't exactly boost your signal but would mean you could get the receiver to a better spot for signal strength.
I've no idea about wiring up an aerial from a PCI wifi card on to a usb wifi stick tho I'm afraid.. -
I think you're wanting to boost your laptop's internal wifi card reception. If so, then the answer is probably not. The antenna is built in to the laptop, and gets whatever reception it's going to get. If you had a different wireless module attached, you could only use one or the other (unless you used one as an access point and bridged the two).

im not trying to boost the internal or use both. what im trying to do is just get an external usb one and try to connect the antenna to it.
external wifi
