Well, that's what communism is after all. Bypassing government filters is risky, but if you really insist you can use Firefox and enter a proxy. You can find free to use proxies via Google. However your information is less secure and data transfer is slower.

I'm sure if the government has blocked certain sites that all proxies you can find through Google are going to be blocked as well.

I have no clue about the legality of discussing this on the forums but here it goes. You can use something called "tor". Search for it and you should find a good tutorial. But anything you do will be quite risky.

Haha China as a communist country is such an oxymoron. More like a totalitarian oligarchy. Communism is an economic model and China right now is more capitalist than the U.S.

Anyway in order to reach those sites you need a proxy or VPN tunnel. I use my school's VPN when I am in China and it works quite well. Tor is often slow and I could not get it to work in China but you may have better luc.

You all need to pay attention to the news.

The Chinese government for some time has a list of sites which are supposed to be banned and/or restricted (and they require players like Google, Yahoo etc to work within those guidelines as well), which chiefly involve many social networking and blog sites, and some specific news outlets. In some regions of the country, it seems those are enforced more loosely (not as much in central China around Chongqing when I was there) than in the urban centers.

We should not, however, be offering advice within this forum on how to bypass any government filters or restrictions, either in the US or elsewhere. Whatever our opinion of such measures and why they were put in place, to do so would be to place this forum at potential jeopardy.

As for the OP, the Chinese government is known to take a VERY dim view of citizens who work to bypass or do other things like this online, and consequences can include arrest and imprisonment. Since it sounds like the OP doesn't quite know what they're doing, I don't think we should be providing tools to anyone who would unwittingly use them and be swept up by the government for innocuous use.

Anyone in China who needs/wants to bypass government restrictions should already know how or access that info locally, and not be trolling through forums asking for help. Proceed at your own risk.

Really?? Blocking of facebook is your measure of communist wrongness?? Wow. Look up Tiananmen Square (1989).
Talking to some college classmates from China, part of their schooling is military training. Basically, all school is like military school. One classmate wasn't as strong as the boys (her words) so she was trained mostly for medical work. Regular parts of training (part of school, required of ALL), were long runs.. long as in hours.
She mentioned that there was one year when things were really increased.. that 'something must have been going on'. Considering it was her high school type time, and knowing her age, I am thinking this was during the Tiananmen Square protests and killings.

Info restriction is standard. the citizens routinely do not know about the happenings within their country. Imagine all Iraq war protests being ignored and not reported and 100s of the protesters killed. Learn something of the world in which you live

    Pretty much.

That saves me writing it out. :D Thank you.

Now for those of you who are not familiar with the forum rules, now will be a very good time to read them. Read every word of it. I will even post it here for you. Thread closed.
