I had downloaded Mozilla Firefox cause I was having problems with Safari. Now i'm trying to delete Firefox permanently, and my trash can refuses to empty. I have dragged all items percluding to firefox and mozilla into the trash can, but all will actually permanently delete except the actual Firefox logo/icon. What's going on? Have I forgotten to delete a file somewhere hidden within my Hard Drive?

Wanna explain how you solved it, Scott? It may be of help if anyone gets the same problem in the future and stumbles upon this thread

Two ways to get around this problem:
1: reboot.
2: Find the applications that are using these files in terminal by using the command top, then sudo kill the command id. This is more dangerous, though, as you may kill a vital system app. -
pretty likely that in terminal doing "sudo ps -ax | grep -i firefox" would find most things to do with the firefox application, you can then kill those processes.
Don't know if the sudo would be neccessary (firefox should be user level) but it wouldn't hurt.
Or restarting...
for some reason...
