If i get a mbp from apple.com and buy an ipod from newegg.com could i still get the rebate? and if i buy a mbp sometime before september 15th and could i do some sort of trade in with the new revision in a certain amount of time?

edit: and could i get a 32 gig touch and still get the $299 back?

I don't think so. I think you have to buy the laptop and ipod together (or so it was with last year's free ipod deal). You also have to buy them through apple's education store (or college campus computer store).

Here are the terms and conditions of the rebate

    -edit

"PURCHASE RESTRICTIONS: Except as otherwise provided in these terms, the Apple computer and iPod must be purchased on the same invoice/sales receipt."

"You must purchase qualifying products together using Apple’s Education Individual discount from June 3, 2008, through September 15, 2008. You must be a
qualified Apple Education Individual end-user purchaser, and not a reseller or institution, to obtain this promotional offer. Products must be purchased from the
Apple Online Store for Education Individuals, an Apple Retail Store, Apple Telesales, or an Apple Authorized Campus Store located in the 50 United States or the
    District of Columbia."

    I think answer your question

To my knowledge they don't give you a coupon to get a free iPod, it is packaged along with the laptop.

apple doesnt package ipods with their computers, you have to buy it separately.

Edit: What about my other two questions?

Yes, as long as the 32GB iPod Touch is purchased with your computer.

You get an iPod with your purchase, and you file a rebate after that. So getting an iPod from Newegg doesn't really change anything...you'll have two iPods then :p.

If just asking doesn't work, you can try gaining a little leverage by trying to return your laptop in order to place an order for a new laptop + ipod (but then you have to worry restocking fees if you have already opened it). Its worth a shot and every time I've called Apple, they have always been very friendly.

When i bought my MBP at the apple store you have to buy the ipod with it and then get the rebate. And its 8gb touch or 8gb nano are the options...
