Hi guys, I kinda have a dilemma and I was hopping you all could help. Yesterday I picked up a new macbook core 2 duo at CompUSA for my girlfriend's Christmas/ b-day present (the 1.83 Ghz model) for the retail price of $1099. While I was there I noticed that they also had the older macbook model with the core duo 2.0 Ghz processor same specs as far as RAM and hard drive space, but it also had the super drive for $1092. I don't know if I should exchange the one that i bought for the core duo model with the super drive? Are they that much different and is the older model a better deal?

My girlfriend is not going to be using the macbook for anything too crazy. She is basically only going to use it for school work (Cal state fullerton). She may also use it for making dvd's of her year old nephew, that's why i wonder if i should get the model with the super drive. Or should i just tell her to buy an external DVD burner later on.

Any help and input would be appreciated, Thanks again, and happy holidays!

How ironic, my girlfriend used to go to Cal State Fullerton, but she is here at UCLA, now.

As far as Duo Core vs. Duo 2 Core, the Duo 2 Core works around 20% faster and comsume less energy. That's all I know.

Unless you really need the SuperDrive, I'd keep the C2D. It's should be a bit faster than the 2Ghz CD, and perhaps there will be features in Leopard that will be better taken care of by 64bits CPUs.

I didn't think they had any new models without a super drive?

If she is going to want to make DVD's I would get the one with the SuperDrive. Your girlfriend will not notice any speed difference between CD and C2D. If she is not into technology that much she really will not care what processor it has, but she will care that she cannot make DVD's if that is what she wants to do.
