ive looked on the site for warranty information for sending in my mbp to be fixed but all i ever come across are locations to bring it myself, unfortunately the closest place to bring it is like 2 hours away and i dont feel like bringing it there. is there a way to send it in to be looked at/fixed?
i have a mbp 2.2 - sometimes it doesnt wake up and its really pissing me off. its a risk every time i close the lid..
anyway is this possible to do cuz i cant find it..
side note: did everyone that got a free leopard OS for buying a mac during a certain time before the release only get an upgrade disc? i did and im sort of pissed that i cant do a clean install with leopard
thanks for any answers![]()

Hrm, I would ask support for a clean install disc. My friend bought his mac right after leopard came out, but it came with tiger installed, but a full version of Leopard as well.
I feel your pain with the sleep issue. I had that problem until I upgraded to Leopard. Unfortunately I didn't have a space of even 3 or 4 days I could afford to go without my mac to send it in during the warranty period.
For sending it in for repairs, I thought that Apple would have sent you a box and shipping label when you talked to support? -
I think the sleep issue is an OS X bug, not a defect in your MBP. I've noticed sometimes OS X won't wake up, or will be VERY laggy at times when it does, however waking Windows up never gives me trouble...
-
Are you running Tiger right now? I do believe it is an issue with Tiger. Not once since I've upgraded to leopard (about a week or two after release) have I had that happen. I put it to sleep 3-4 times a day now and have yet to see it come up with the black screen and fail to start.
I however still have an issue with it detecting a ghost monitor.. sigh... -
No, I'm running Leopard.
-
Really? hrm... Now I'm scared to do a clean install down the road and have the problem again! While most of the problems I have in OS X are very minor, the sleep problem is a real big problem.
Here is a possible work around for it though. I noticed that if i attached an external monitor, it would wake it up. I think it actually involved an issue with the display turning back on, but everytime I had that problem connecting a monitor woke it up.
Give it a try and see if it works (try even just connecting the dvi->vga dongle). -
I think I found out what the problem was...... I guess it's my impatience. I just tried putting it in sleep, and opening it up again. I was greeted with a black screen, but I heard the HDD and CD drive spinning. After about 10-15 seconds it turned back on. I took the CD out, tried it again, and it was near instant coming out of sleep. I guess it just takes longer with a CD in th drive, since it reads it first i guess.
-
I noticed that the display is the very last thing that gets turned on when I wake mine up from sleep. Odd though that it takes longer to wake up when you have a cd in.
-
wow. Ok. I just thing it's still a bug in the OS. I was just trying it again. It didn't wake up. I had to close and re-open it several times for it to come back, and now it's all lagging. Guess it waking up that other time was a fluke, haha.
-
Hrm... try what I suggested with connecting the monitor. Just curious if it works for you.
Yeah, see... mine would never come back awake, no matter how often you tried to open/close the lid. -
I will try it later, as I'm in the middle of something and my monitor is tucked away in a closet since I don't use my desktop anymore. I'll get back to you with the results.

Ok. So I did some other tests. I shut down MSN before I put it in sleep mode, and put it in and out of sleep twice, with an almost instant boot up when i lifted the lid. I also turned off SMCFanControl, so it's one of the two that are causing this problem.
EDIT: I turned on SMCFanControl and tried this again, twice. It seems that the outdated-ness of MSN is causing the sleep mode to not work properly....
EDIT 2: maybe not. I tried it with MSN off and it woke up and was very laggy again. This just seems to be random >_< -
I did some digging. Check this out: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6074931
Someone mentioned iStat Pro being the culprit, so if you are running the widget, turn it off and see if it fixes it! -
weird! I have istat, but since my upgrade to leopard, no issues waking up.
-
Well, I just took it in and out of sleep 5 times. And it woke up instantly every time, and there is no lag at all now. I'll give it a few more tries and see if it's real and I'm not fluking out like the other times.
-
hmm i have istat and smcfancontrol ill have to try some combinations of running the two to see how it works out
-
Well Sleep mode has been working flawlessly after closing iStat Pro yesterday. So I can only conclude that was the issue.
help with apple.com sending in mbp?
