There is a product that my boss uses which comes with the external enclosure for your new hdd and software which will clone your disc to the new one.
After you do that, you would throw the new one in your laptop and put the old disc in the external drive and use it for whatever.

Or... like me when I upgraded to the 250 in my laptop, I copied the files I needed to another source (my home server) and put the new drive in. After that I just reinstalled Tiger (this was before Leopard).

OS X has no pesky licensing like XP... you don't need a key and it doesn't check to see how many times that it has been installed. At least, as far as I know :p

When I upgraded my HD I just used Disk Utility to Clone my current HD onto the new HD using an external enclosure. Afterwards I put the new HD into the Mac and used the Leopard disc to upgrade from Tiger.

Ah.. the product my boss uses is the same one a lot of us use... SuperDuper.

I thought he had meant he bought a kit that had a utility and the hard drive enclosure.
