hi friends! To begin with, all my uni friends were boasting about the new windows 7 beta. I Thought i would give it a try. Here's what i did and what you could do i you wanted to do the same as me:
- download windows 7 beta from the windows website. The iso file should be downloaded to your desktop. Leave it there.
- On your mac os x, go to applications -> utilities -> disk utility. select the iso file on the desktop and press burn, if a window appears, select the iso file in it.
- after it has burned, go to your bootcamp utility and create a partition for your windows. i chose 50gb for my windows.
- then, with the burned cd still in the dvd drive, select start installation.
- Your laptop will restart and it will boot diractly to your windows installer.
- select your language and press next. You should be presented with the select partition page.
- By default, you cannot install the windows on the partition you created. click your created partition (NOT THE MAC OS. IF YOU SELECT IT, ALL YOUR DATA WILL BE LOST!!click on the one you created via bootcamp). There a link on the page, which says 'more drive options'. click on it and select format.
- after it has formatted, you'll be able to press next and the setup will begin.
- Everything should happen automatically. Be aware that windows 7 takes a lot of time to install.
- The next window which will appear is the greeting window. (Please note that the laptop will restart several times during the setup. so no need to worry.)
- select your settings and when you have finalised your settings, you should be greeted with the brand new windows 7 beta.
- The windows will detect most hardwares but in case it hasnt, take out your cd and install the windows vista driver you got for your hardware. It should work.
- for your video driver, go to nvidia's website, go to download mobile gpu drivers. i think there's only 1 driver. download it. install it, restart your laptop.
- After that, put your mac os x install dvd and install the drivers, it should work. then re install your video driver which you downloaded as yours will be 'lost', but still installed. after this, boot up your laptop. it should be ready to do some h@rdcore tasks!!!!!
Concerning the windows 7:
I found it to run better than windows vista. my unibody mac ran cooler than on windows vista. what a good news. isight finally works, after you install your apple drivers. i haven't tried any game, but i guess it should run fine.

Installing Windows 7 on a Mac is the exact same procedure as installing Vista or XP via Boot Camp.

yeah, and isight worked on vista

Games work great on Windows 7. I have COD5 installed, and the explosions seem to be smoother, and less choppy than in XP on the 9400M, I just don't know why.

thanks for your inputs..i know it is the same, but i got problems when burning the iso file. i tried the drag and drop feature before burning but bootcamp didn't detect the burned dvd. i had to use the disk utility. BTW, do your mac still runs hot/warmer than most laptops in the windows 7?

It runs about the same as it does in OS X. So, it should be ok.
how i dual booted mac os x and windows 7
