    here's the story:

I have a white macbook, bought in the summer of 2006. I want to sell it on ebay or craiglist or something like that and upgrade to a macbook pro.

here's the specs of my macbook:

intel core duo, 1 GHZ RAM, 60 GB hd

major softwares loaded: microsoft office 2004, final cut express hd, photoshop 7, iWork 2005-pages+keynote, Macromedia flash mx and dreamweaver.

how much $ do you think i can get?

The MacBook alone would go for about $600-$800.

Do a search on Ebay for MacBook's with similar specs to yours to see what the final selling price is.

Guys, there's microsoft office 2004, final cut express hd, photoshop 7, iWork 2005-pages+keynote, Macromedia flash mx and dreamweaver on it.

That's easily got to be over $300-400 worth of software - around $120 for office, at least $80 for photoshop 7 and flash and dreamweaver would do another $75 at least (I'm just doubling the GBP values here).

I recon you could get at least $900 with the software loaded.

I'd sell the software seperate; who's to say a potential buyer would be interested in the software that you have? Not to mention, a brand new Macbook, base model, costs what, a little over $1000? Even if the buyer just wanted Office, considering the low cost of Office and it has just been upgraded, that would be the better/smarter buy. This of course, is just my humble opinion.

    I would be happy with 900$ :)

or maybe i'll just keep the macbook and get a macbook pro anyways...

    How fast is the processor?

I'd say a 2006 Macbook is not going to get you $900 - even with the software. Software has a crappy resale, but with the amount you have, it will definitely add a little to the value.

I would usually expect lower than the high estimate, that way you're not disappointed.

At least it's a mac, they hold value better than windows machines.

Ah, that helps. Yeah, you might as well start asking $900 on craigslist and see what kind of offers you get. Your software + a 2Ghz processor could get you $900, you just might have to be patient.

Craigslist has gone to hell thanks to all the Nigerian scammers.

You could also try listing it on ebay for a fixed price + best offer option. That's what I did and ended up getting what I wanted.

    Good luck with it.

You'd make more money with craigslist, because ebay has listing fees and they take a generous percentage of the selling price :(

But 900 is too much. I can get one w/ 2.1Ghz Core 2 Duo and 120GB HDD for 1100 brand new. I would say $700 at most for your 2 yr old used notebook. Sorry..

I'm curious why you would want to sell the software if your going to get a macbook pro, won't you need it?

I was refering to the softwares loaded on my laptop. I have the sofware CDs.

I'm not a lawyer, so I'm curious, legally, when i sell my laptop, do i also need to sell the physical software-the CDs, or can I keep them?

you should definitely include the install discs for the software you do sell, including any serial keys to activate them. you want to keep your customer happy. :p

If you don't give the buyer the discs, all the software that is loaded will mean nothing. This is because the buyer may want to reformat or upgrade to a new operating system one day and all the preloaded will be gone.

For comparison, I sold the same white macbook you have on craigslist a few months back for $750. It was in good condition, with the box and all original materials.
