I was using my New (from christmas) MacBook Pro and then shut the lid, and left it for a bit. I come back, open the lid, and start iChat. I start typing to a friend and I noticed that when I pressed the S key, it wouldn't work. Nothing shouwed on my screen when I pressed it ( I am on my dads pc). Every time I press ANYTHING (almost) it makes a sound. Its the type of sound that is an error or -unable-
HELP!
I've just run software update and rebooted
-
Hmm, do you think anything is stuck underneath the key? Like on my laptop a few times, the key wouldnt work, and I had to remove the key and like blow what ever it was in there out. I put the key back on and it worked. I dunno if it made a error sound though.
-
I don't suppose your numlock is on accidentally (wouldn't account for the sound, but something to check anyway).
Otherwise, your best bet is to take it in to be looked at. Sounds a hardware or connection issue. -
numlock is off, but thank you for the suggestion...I dont have a appe store near me, an dI just tried calling...line is full.
this sucks
-
Try again no worries, apple will take care of you
. You are under warranty still just in case right?
-
Yep, still under warrenty. So I can always make them takeit back? and get a new one?
-
have you tried rebooting again to see if it fixes the problem?
-
Just did and no change
I am reallly upsetttt
-
Is it just the "S" key that's not working?
-
Yep, pretty sure
-
ok, so you can type with all other keys except the S key? and pressing the S key is giving you the default error sound?
give Apple a call again, obviously the key is still functioning if it is triggering a sound right? so maybe there is a fix for this.
what was that other number another member mentioned? 1-800-SOS-APPLE right? you should be able to get through on the normal support line though. -
Yep, thats what I've been dialling. I'll try again. thak you for the help insite and hope!
-
Check every key for the same issue, if it's only the S key, it might just be something stuck underneath?
-
Thers a program called Full Key Codes, which basically shows you the ascii value for whatever key you press. (Useful for programming)
You can try it, and see if you press S if anything shows up, if you press any key something should show up.

Also have you tried an external keyboard? Just curious about that. -
I have fixed it! People @ the apple forum gave me the idea:

It was because of a keystroke I set!
thank you everyone
