So I ordered a 15in mbp with 2.4 C2D
I am a die hard pc person, so I hope I like it
I ordered matte screen, what are some of your opinions on the matte vs. glossy debate?
-
-
CONGRATS you will love it I am sure!
I have the matte screen and really like it compared to my dells glossy screen. I could not find the MBP in a glossy screen where I live but I find its much better than the glossy screens that I have been using. It took me a few weeks to figure out the basics with a mac but now I like it better than windows.
-
I currently have a glossy screen on my Acer laptop. It can be annoying when you're sitting around the house, because every time you move you need to re-adjust the screen to deal with the reflections, when you consider that my laptop has quite poor vertical viewing angles it can be a real hassle.
Apart from that the glossy screen looks very sharp, I like matte screens more, but they come across a tad 'fuzzy' when I o a side-by-side with my own PC.
Also my screen originally had some purple coloured anti-reflective coating which washed off when I used LCD screen cleaner on it. VERY annoying!. -
Glossy screen is more annoying to look at if it shows reflections, but glossy may look better than matte if in a dark room. OS X is similar to Windows in terms of GUI so the transition is not going to be that bad. You can also use the beta Boot Camp to run Windows (at the expense of a lot of hard drive space however). Sometimes I click on the wrong part of the window since I switch between OS X, Windows, and Linux. My classmate has a 17" MBP and it has a really nice matte screen. IMHO the 17" MBP is just too heavy to carry around though. The 15" is much lighter.
-
I'm guessing with the new led screens, the matte will be considerably brighter than most matte screens?
-
stjs7857 i basically have the same system as you except im buying 4 gigs on crucial, then we'll be even.
-
I ditched the m1330 for the MBP too! After waiting over 20+ days for dell to ship my notebook. I love the MBP's screen. It is without a doubt the best screen I have used yet
-
did you get gloss or matte eyeburn?
-
The wait times were ridiculous, i order 2 days after it came out and it wasn't due till the last week of august.
-
I'm getting pretty close to ditching my Dell D420 for a Macbook Pro.
I too am a die hard PC person, so I can relate.
I prefer the matte screen, personally. -
I also cancelled the m1330 order in favor for the MBP (15 inch). I realized that I needed a bigger screen and the only maker I felt comfortable with choosing was Apple. By switching, I got a lot of features that the custom m1330 I configured on Dell's site and then some: bigger screen, better gfx card, and better processor for $100 less! final cost for this MBP came out to $2200 while the m1330 would have run me 2300 and change.
-
wait are you charged tax online? I'm in college and got 200off a 80gb ipod and a free printer. I also bought applecare.
-
Yeah, I was taxed about $120 when I placed the order online.
-
I got the matte screen.
-
How does Apple know that you are currently enrolled at a particular school to qualify for the education discount? Is it based on the honor system?
-
I believe when you buy online there is a Education Store or something. You click on the link and you enter your college and student ID number. Then it takes you to the Education Store where the discounted prices are shown. From there you just check out like you normally would.
-
Weird, I didn't have to type in an Apple ID. All I did was look up my university and click continue. Then I began to place my order as I did before and got all the way to the verification screen. I'm thinking if thats all I need to do, I'll cancel my original order and do this to save $200 bucks. I am still in the University program, so I'm not trying to beat the system. If this is all I need to do, then I'll do it.
-
Now that I think of it, when I ordered on the phone he only asked me what school I went to and nothing more. If you order as a college student you get a free printer and a free nano or place it towards a better ipod. I got an 80gb ipod for $100.
-
If thats the case, then I'm going for it. Thanks guys! Saved me $200. Although I do not plan on getting the IPod, as I'm a Zune guy.
-
Another thing is I looked at the help section about the discount and it didn't specify any special steps needed to do this.
-
lol, i'll take ur free nano then.
-
Get the iPod anyways. You can sell it brand new un-opened on eBay or to your friends. Its free anyways.
-
hmmm... i placed the order, again. think if i cancel yet again apple will allow it? lol. worth a shot.
-
ok, i re-did the order for a 3rd time and it went through like a charm. i'm getting the silver nano 4gb ipod, plus that $200 off the laptop. sweet. thanks for the tip guys!
-
Congrats!
-
Hey guys, I also cancelled my M1330 for a Macbook Pro. I ordered on July 3rd and the expected date of arrival was in September! Thanks but no thanks.
I ordered the 2.2GHZ MBP with the Glossy Screen, but I upgraded the HDD to the 160GB one. I also added AppleCare. I got a red Ipod Nano and the Canon MP460 printer. It looked like a much better printer than the MP180 and it was only $20 more so I decided to go with that.
What kind of ship date do you guys have?
I ordered early on the 24th and my ship date is Aug 1 - Aug 6. I'm in Canada. Great delivery speed on the extras though. My ipod arrived yesterday (a day later), and my printer is scheduled to arrive today.
-
yeah...im highly considernig ditching my 1330 and just going to the store TODAY to pick up a mbp..but i wish apple had the 12 months financing like dell =/
-
If you are in a university or college, ask about the education discount. It will save you a bundle! Sorry to hear that you ditched the XPS M1330 though. Its a real shame.
-
I wish they gave a free upgrade to Leopard and iLife. I'm not a student, so I don't get discounts on those upgrades. If Apple offered free upgrades I'd buy the Macbook Pro today. But without the upgrade offers, I'll wait.
-
You might be able to get the education discount regardless when you order online. There is a link on the store page for the "Buy a Mac, get a Nano free" (or something like it. Click that and then choose a school that participates in the program. You do not have to enter in anything special to prove it (which is weird). You'll be taken back to the store page and be able to see practically everything at reduced prices, including the MacBook Pro.
-
Sorry for the pun, but you are the first person I have even seen admit they actually own the Zune.
-
LOL, I'm proud of it too!
It actually is a good player. I now have options as to what player I use now because of the free Nano. -
Since you are a diehard PC person, I think you will be unpleasantly disappointed that you cannot right click using the trackpad/trackpad buttons in Windows.
-
To be honest, this worries me too...
-
I'm not being negative and all, since I have a macbook myself, but you should also note that the battery life under XP is less than what you get when you run OSX, even with underclocking.
Just something to be aware of. -
Yes, right clicking will be sorely missed. But the keyboard+mouse click combo isn't a bad thing either.
true, i have heard several threadz mention this. do you have a macbook or a macbook pro? -
I have the latest wireless n-enabled regular macbook, and I'm in love with the design and OSX. I can't justify the purchase if I'm going to use it as a full-fledged windows machine though (I'm a former XP and Vista user myself). From time to time, I boot to XP for Windows-only software needed for school.
-
is the latest macbook based off of the santa rosa chipset? or is that only available in the pro editions?
-
The latest macbook is still under the napa platform... the jump to MBP's santa rosa platform, in my opinion, is not as dramatic as the core duo ----> core 2 duo jump because the cache size of the core 2 duo chip on the santa rosa platform is the same.
This means that it will deliver tiny improvements in my opinion and is not worth the $600 difference. -
MBP-Watch: Day 5
Not yet shipped... anticipation and worry grows.
Has anyone recently ordered their MBP's on Apple's website and gotten it within a week? The IPod Nano I ordered alongside the laptop came within two days...Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I can relate. I was planning on ordering mine from Amazon.com over the weekend, and they ran out of stock.
Now their only option is to go through one of their merchants -- for $350 more and no $150 rebate. No thanks. I'm pretty bummed, and hope they get more MBPs in stock... SOON!

On Apple's website you can order a MacBook and get an IPod for free (after rebate). They have a promotion where you get $200 (USD) off for the MB or MBP for purchasing both together.
-
Well, thanks, but:
A) I'm not a student (the deal is for students only).
B) Since Amazon is (was?) offering a $150 rebate, and they don't charge sales tax, the MBP actually came out to be less money overall. -
even if you aren't a student, you can still do the deal.. you don't need any extra information to complete the offer
-
I ordered from the Apple store, and the laptop arrived within two weeks. The iPod Nano only took a few days to arrive. It's completely normal.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015

I did the exact same thing, got mine coming in on the 18th of August, good choice man.
