Good news my friends!

Article @ Electronista
Exciting news indeed......makes one wonder what else Apple might be talking about (besides the tablet) on 1/27.....
-
Hmm! NICE!
A really worthy alternative! -
Good news! So maybe in January I will get the MBP

kind of a misleading thread title. We all know core i5 macbook pros will happen and soon. What we all want to know is specs.
The title of the thread makes it seem like the specs of the laptop were leaked. This isn't really news imo, an was a disappointing thread. -
Hey, it was news to me. It's not like I threw my coffee mug at my monitor out of disappointment. ha. There were so many rumors and conjectures going around that it was anyones guess what CPU would be used. Now it just a little more certain
when the full specs are released maybe the thread title will be "full MBP specs leaked"
-
The title, i5 MBP's leaked, is fairly straightforward. It means that it was confirmed that the i5 processor will be in the next version of MBP. There was no express or implied language to specifications, release timing, or if it would be released in fuchsia ....
-
so, they'll have the intel + Nvidia combination.. It will be very easy to switch gpu in windows 7 on these things.
-
I'm just praying they change the current port configuration. I would like to see some modern form of a high speed port ala eSATA or USB3.0. Even re-adding the express card slot to 15s would be prime in my book.
-
Hopefully one of those HS ports (if any) trickles down to the 13" as well....
-
Is usb 3.0 even out yet?
-
I hate saying this but whats the big deal about the i5 being the new MBP's, Sony has a new Vaio notebook with the i7, I would rather see an i7 in at least the 15" and 17". I don't expect anything other than i5 in the 13".
-
that would be neat to have the i7 in an MBP. But then they'd probably have to have a bunch of exhaust vents underneath and it would probably be thicker (the sony Vaio F is 1.22" - 1.62" compared to a current MBP at .96") and heavier to make room for more heatsinks and better cooling with faster spinning and louder fans (or more fans)
it wouldn't be the same slick and slim design they have today. But if they can keep the same or similar unibody they have today with same battery life then I say they should go for it. I'd buy one.
As it is, I think the i5 is a nice processor for a macbook -
Officially released at CES. A few notebooks have it already.

I'll hold off on enthusiasm until the gfx solution is "leaked"
Let's face it, processors are almost secondary to all the mystery surrounding the graphics

How does this leaked poster confirm an Intel + nVidia combination? nVidia isn't mentioned at all and the Intel IGP is mentioned in terms of a content quiz for retailers and not directly related to the MacBook Pro.
I'm hoping for an Intel IGP + ATI 5650 or higher combination for 15.4" and 17" MBP models and Intel IGP + nVidia 310M in the 13.3".
I doubt they would add eSATA. It's ineffective as a portable HDD solution (as opposed to a more general external HDD solution) since it doesn't supply power and it's single use, only for storage, which isn't an efficient use of the already limited port space on the MacBook Pro. USB3.0 also likely won't be popular with Apple because no current or planned chipsets offer integrated support for it. So if Apple were to add it they'd have to add another dedicated chip to the motherboard which is already space starved and even more so for the 13.3" MacBook Pros if Apple were forced to also add a dedicated GPU.
I would definitely support seeing ExpressCard re-introduced in the 15.4" MacBook Pro along with Firewire 3200, 450Mbps 802.11n to complement the latest Time Capsule and Airport Extreme refresh which seems to be secretly 450Mbps capable, and Bluetooth 3.0. -
I believe he is talking about the newly refreshed Vaio Z, which is a 13.1" notebook with an i7 option. Plus it will also be sporting a nVIDIA 330m GT. Let's hope Apple will be able to compete with those specs in the refreshed MPBs.
Edit: and the Vaio Z is one of the slimmest notebook on the market. -
ahh, cool. did not know about the new slimmer vaio z. the one on their website is 1.3" thick and core 2 duo. I wonder how they will keep the new i7 and 330m gt cool and quiet in a little package like that.
-
I was actually referring to the new Vaio F series which is a 16.4 screen with i7 which seems to be Sony's only machine with the i7 option which was intro'd at CES. The Z currently shows only a 3.06 Core 2 duo. I can't see them shoving an i7 in the Z right now. Seems too small to accommodate the heat from the i7.

This topic shows the link to a European shopping site where a preorder of i5 Sony Z is available. Consider this, the i5 MBP is possibly on its way as well.

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Well, i7 scales from 18W TDP with low low voltage dual cores up to 45W with the quad cores, so Sony actually could fit one in there.
Also, the new Z is here, and it seems they managed to fit the 35W Core i7 with no problems, especially since it uses less power than a current P or T series processor. -
i5 would be a smart move from Apple. Seems like a chip that provides decent performance, plus integrated GPU with acceptable power use. I can't see why Apple wouldn't put this into their 13" and 15" models. i7 into the 17"?
I'm more interested in knowing what graphics solution they'll be offering. Hopefully something with a little bit of grunt. -
Looks like imma be getting a new Macbook......
-
I'm intrested in the gpu's of the MBP 15 inch series, the matte screen is definitly one of the most importent aspects for my weak eyes which few brands offer.
-
Looks like you should hold your horses.
This is exactly why it's not worth getting excited over rumours.

On closer examination it looks like an Envy with a OS X wallpaper and rocket dock...LOL
Advice to Intel: No need to change poster just photo edit the screen to show Windows 7 will do. -
Not necessarily. I ungraded my wife's original m15x (Intel+Nvidia graphics) to Windows 7, and now changing GPUs requires a reboot, while it could switch on the fly in Vista.
-
Here's hoping for more powerful graphic cards.
-
I think if we expect to be disappointed we will be ok. Apple has never delivered on a solid graphics solution.
-
ha, this turned out to be pretty funny.
at least I learned that there is a new limited edition Sony Z with an i7 :0
And makes one hope that it is possible in an MBP
*thought I'd add a little gasoline to the mbp refresh speculation
-
hmm.. I thought that the 9400 IGP + the dedicated 9600 GT was a pretty excellent solution in general and when the Late 2008 first came out it was actually quite competitive. Granted the later refreshes were more rehashes and dissappointments (SD card slot and same graphics).
-
look closer, it is last gen macbook pro's body with umacbook pro's screen@
-
Most likely that's the i7620 that Sony will be using in the Z which is a 2.66 Ghz dual core and not a quad core. I can't see Sony putting a quad core i7 in the Z. Way too small to accommodate the heat. I've already seen a few quad core i7 notebooks much bigger, in the 16-17" screen size that were blazing hot from the i7 720 1.6Ghz processor.

rep sent. not much info
-
I wonder how well the performance the i5 will be using BootCamp and Win 7 on there.
Anyone using Windows 7 w/ VMWare or Boot Camp with the MBP using C2D now? How's the performance on the Windows side? I have a lot of windows apps that I don't have Mac version of (i.e.: Nikon Capture NX2, Photoshop CS4, and Lightroom). Would be interested in a MAC for the fun of it, but would like the ability of running Windows for these apps do I don't have to rebuy them. -
yep, windows ran terrific with my C2D in bootcamp. And if you get 64 bit windows and have 8GB RAM then you'll be even more pleased with Windows in bootcamp especially with those video/graphic editing programs
* I don't know much about the i5 or how it compares with a Core 2 Duo
