I hear they are actually clocked like a 650m and 660m.
Since both gpu's are GDDR5, can I overclock the 640m to achieve same level of performance as their 650m?
I wonder what kind of performance I can expect for Call of Duty MW3? Will 512 vram be a problem at 1080p?
I'm a casual gamer but would llike to enjoy a quality MW3 experience.

Both of those GPUs are clock-locked to 135Mhz over their standard frequency. I do believe than less than 1GB of video memory would be a problem in Call of Duty. 1GB is pretty much the minimum these days and the high-end desktop cards now have 6GB. I'm convinced that Apple sells parts with 512MB of RAM just to make people who game upgrade to the next tier. I wouldn't recommend the iMac to any gamer, because it's a laptop shaped like a monitor, but if you're a casual gamer you might be able to get by.

Thanks. Not sure what to do as I don't know if the 640m can overclock to that level or not, and either way 512 vram might not work. Man this sucks. I don't know what to do, I wanted an iMac that would play MW3 well @ 1080p, but I don't want the 27".

you would at minimum need the 27" the 640 will not overclock that far and 512VRAM is way too little for frame buffers for most AAA games now. ( I do not game but keep track of my kids hardware ) according to a few of the gamers if you want to turn on most ( not all ) the testures you can need more than 1GB to turn it all on it seems MW3 can use up to 2GB

Still wishing Apple would put a decent mobile GPU in the Mini.

That's nice of you to do for your kids, I wished my Parents did that for me growing up.
