so... I'm just curious how many of you are going to buy the iPad (any version).
-
I said no.
But I will probably buy one for my mum in law.
And I might get a V2 if a few key features get added.
a
-
I may get one to tear down and mess with. Guarenteed someone I know will get one and need it fixed or something.
-
No. Solution looking for a problem.
-
-
I would totally buy one if they fixed all of the big issues such as multi tasking and flash support.
Also if they were able to get handwriting recognition in there then I would replace my school laptop and use this because taking notes on a laptop in college isn't ideal since sometimes a professor draws a diagram that I can't copy onto my laptop but if the iPad somehow allowed that while taking notes then I would get one in a heartbeat and just use the keyboard attachment to take notes in college. -
-
I had to say no. But maybe after they improve it...
-
one of the biggest problems is that it was overhyped by the blogsphere...
SJ:"Today we introduce iPad- it even can make sushi for you!"
Joe:"Meh,I wanted time travel"
Tech people would have been disappointed regardless of anything... BUT! I see a strange thing when I talk to my "average Joe" friends. At first they like the idea, but say that it is an apple product,so will probably cost more then 1k and thats too much! But after knowing the real price, they go "Hmm, not bad for a device that can do such things! Music?check!pictures?check!movies?check!books?check!inet?check! if you want something that does simple things but don't want a netbook, this is surely a product to consider! And with future OS updates that potentially can finally deliver multitasking, it gets even more appealing! -
If I had some cash lying around I would get it. -
Well... when a camera is included, multitasking added, bump the resolution a tad and add flash support while keeping the prices about the same... maybe...
-
-
-
I chose "Maybe, if the price was lower."
It was a disappointment for me. I've been following all the tablet rumors online, and the hype around it made it seem like it was actually going to be a "revolutionary" device.
But it's too limited right now. I don't mind no multitasking that much, but no flash? Way to deliver the web experience Apple, with those big blank boxes in the middle of webpages.
And what's up with the huge bezel? It's like 20% of the entire top surface. Plus, the typing on the onscreen keyboard doesn't seem very ergonomic.
-rant over-
Anyways. It's not a bad device, but it is kinda underwhelming.
Maybe I'll pick one up around next year. Rev. 2 should have lower price/higher storage and maybe a camera. -
It needs a big bezel so your hands are not on the screen pushing stuff when you hold it, Since you can't hold it in one had like the iPhone. Look at the HP slate, it has a big bezel too.
-
-
I voted no as I have an Ipod touch 16gb second gen and Iphone 3GS 32gb. pretty much a mini Ipad wifi and mini Ipad 3g version... Seems like unless you really want the big screen it may be worth saving some cash and picked up an Itouch or save up a bit more and grab a white macbook. -
-
-
Rather get the iPhone so no for me too
-
Definitely not. I have much better things to spend $500 on.
-
If you dont want a netbook, its either because you want more or less functionality, or less cost(?)... If its less function/less cost you go with an iPod touch or a PDA/organizer or nothing.
If you want more functionality then a netbook, the iPad is NOT the next step up, a full laptop is.
The iPad does not fit in ANYWHERE since it is just a jumbo iTouch. The only use for this is if you watch a LOT of iTunes videos as the screen would be nice. But even then, you have all the formatting issues to deal with if its not video from iTunes. If you watch a lot of video (itunes or otherwise) a netbook is again a great if not better solution.
EDIT: Not to mention the fact that they STILL dont allow multi-tasking on the iPhone when jailbreaking has proven for years now that it is fully capable of doing 2-3 programs without any performance impact... there is ZERO grounds for you to even consider or hope for them to give this silly toy multitasking abilities. They would have done it from day 1.
...and as I said, a netbook can do all of the things that this device can for less, or you could purchase one of the touch-screen netbooks that are starting to become available for $500-600 base price if you're really stuck on the touch-input... This iPad thing is just pointless.
iPad will fail imo... -
by the way, do you have a better idea on how to make a fair poll? If I were to post this in the Dell or HP section would that make it better? I'd say this poll is about as fair as it possiblely can be. -
Newton... apple TV... MacBook air... now ipad... sometimes apple just misses it. No one here is bashing it, just being realistic. This ipad is bringing nothing new to the table and is actually far behind the tech today as it is misssing even basic features that even a lot of smartphones support. And there is nothing magical or revolutionary about it. Its a slow tablet PC running an outdated phone OS, controlled by iTunes... for $500. When its sopposed to compete with $200 netbooks that are far more useful. I don't get it I just don't get it. W/e i just hope they update the macbooks soon.
-
Oh yes because I have class and style.
-
Time will tell, and I'm willing to bet that the iPad is going to be a monumental win for Apple, followed by a near constant string of "me-too" products from other companies. -
The iPad is about how and where you use it. Much more convenient than a netbook. Apple leading the market again.
-
-
-
Unless you buy a stand for it (bleh), I still can't see it being very convenient to use pretty much anytime you sit down, which is frequently.
-
-
-
-
For me, I don't see the use. Put an real CPU/GPU in it and give it full OS X and USB ports, and then we'll have a real competitor to netbooks. I already have a PDA (with flash support) that does most of what this can do, and a netbook that can do more.
-
-
-
Ok, but what is the goal? From what I can tell, it seems a netbook or tablet with an actual operating system would do just about everything better. I guess the only time when an ipad would be if I was really, really into itunes and didn't care about much else.
-
It's a useless product, I'm not being anti-Apple or anything.
Anything (within reason) it can do, my phone can do just as well expect mine is Pocket-sized so I will have it wherever I go.
That said, I still want one  -
The iPad only runs apps from the App Store. No Multitasking, No Cameras, Touch Keyboard, No HDMI Out, The Name iPad, No Flash, *Adapters*, No Widescreen, Doesn't Support T-Mobile 3G, A Closed App Ecosystem.. why sell over 500 to 800??
Only problem. YOu cant run more then one program at once! DO'H!!!!!! -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
I voted no, and I always speak out against haters.
-
I think there are situations where it is useful. I am not scared of change and this is the start of a new generation of product, backed by the creative leaders Apple. Lets face it, the iPad is going to be a style icon.
-
-
No for me, really can't see a use for this in addition to the 2 machines + iPod touch I own (desktop & lappy in my sig) and MBP I'm planning to buy.
Like other posters have said in this thread and others, when it evolves to include the same/more functionality compared to most netbooks (check out CNet's "10 things Netbooks still do better than an iPad"), then it will at least be worthy of consideration. -
The reason most people here find it useless, is because we are not average consumers. Most people don't come and hang out in a computer form. Most people don't care if it has enough power to play crysis, or can hold 1 million songs.
What I be leave Apple was going for is the family or the average consumer. Instead of getting a real news paper you have the iPad, you can share it with your family, watch videos with the family, etc. Would you rather pass around a netbook or the iPad? The iPad is clearly not for a power user like most of us are here, and if you think it is, you are thinking wrong. They where not going for power users. -
-
I am one of those average people who just want to hold my Ipad and reading newspaper and book on my couch and browsing internet when I am walking.
-
-
-
I can't see the iPad being a flop. Apple takes loads of criticism followed by all the hype before and after a new products been revealed. The results vary slightly but in the end Apple takes in a large profit and the general consumer eats it up.

iPad or not to iPad
