Posted before the rumour sites caught it ;).

A Letter from Steve Jobs addressing the iPhone and third party native applications.

This is great! Finally! And February isn't too far off, that's great. And I'm excited that this will work with iPod Touch too, as I plan to get one soon ;).

    Awesomeness! :D

edit: In a way, that also means that the iPhones will be easier to "unlock", right? :p

Haha, I don't know about that :p, but I'm excited for what this might open...maybe an email app for the iPod Touch, maybe a text editor, who knows? This is really good news.

If Apple could establish a wealth of third party native applications like their Dashboard database, that'd be great.

February of course means feb 28...lol...so nobody start whining when it's feb 1 and there's no SDK yet!

This seems like something they'd reveal at MWSF...now I wonder what lies ahead...?

This isn't really a Macworld type of announcement since it concerns developers. I am very excited about it though. Hopefully they get it right.

Ready to pay for apps through iTunes?

You can believe that if ringtones aren't (even close to) free, then you might pay through the nose for these.

Yeah, its rather outrageous that you have to pay $.99 to edit the song you purchased for $.99.

With that said, all ringtones sold right now through different stores and such, are usually priced at $2 or more. Of course, that doesn't mean Apple's right in following them, but its just the way the industry is pricing them.

A lot of ringtones are even $2.99. I really don't mind paying $1.98.

The (smartphone, and dumbphone [razr]) industry lets you put whatever mp3's you already have straight on the phone for free.

Yeah, my Sony Ericsson allows that too. As said before, I don't think Apple is right in doing this, but the $1.99 pricing of iTunes ringtones is just following the industry's pricing of "pre-made ringtones"; outrageous.

I hope someone makes an application or something like that, that allows iPhone users to send text messages in the widescreen mode that would be awesome, kinda like a Helio Ocean in a way
