time to file edges on a torx driver again I think.

Wow....give them credit for trying to keep their devices locked up tighter then a chastity belt. Jeez Apple (but I still love your products!)

Within no time you will be able to buy the right screwdriver from China/Hong Kong for pennies.

This pisses me off though

They use the same fastener on the underside of the late 2010 MBA's.
iFixit sells the pentalobe "torx" and exhibits its use on their teardowns.
I see that the tool is also available on Ebay too. But I might have reservations about the Ebay ones, as the screw tip is so small that a cheap/junk tool can really do some damage. Just as I would never use a cheap Phillips head on my old MB to upgrade the memory. A substandard tool can easily damage the screw if it gives way or is misshapen to permit inadequate engagement. -

i have bought specific-application tooldrivers manufactured in china before for cheap on ebay. never damaged anything with them. the screwdrivers have always seemed fine and sturdy.
in my experience you have to really try if your goal is to damage a screw. you need to strip the screw by using a screwdriver that doesn't correctly fit, repeatedly. -
meh, sorry but I really don't think this is that big of a deal... don't drop your phone and you won't have to fix it. simple.

My Captivate has been dropped several times and it bounces...LOL. I can't imagine what my phone would look like if I had an iPhone 4. Too much glass. -
well if I ever drop my iPhone 4, I'll let you know
.

I've dropped my iPhone 4 several times, even on to cement.. was always afraid I had busted it, but it keeps on going with no problems. The gorilla glass is quite strong and doesn't crack easy at all.
-
I don't care about this. I have no reason to open up my iPhone. If it ever needs being fixed, I'll take it to Apple and let their professional hands do the dirty work.
-
I'm sure we'll find tools available on the net before too long similar to the tri-wing screwdriver. Apple was using it as a deterant in trying to prevent people from removing their batteries from the MBPs. But that didn't stop anyone.
This all reminds me of an episode I saw on tv once...

We should call these new screws apple is using the "A" screw.
Insert the screwdriver "A" tip into the corresponding "A-Hole", and twist gently.
