How viable is using an iPod as a backup for my music library?
Let's assume the following:
1. HDD broke and is irrecoverable.
2. iPod set to synch automatically at the moment.
3. iPod not set to data mode.
And if it is viable, what is the best software to do this from the dozen or so that are out there?
Or maybe I should just stop being lazy while waiting for Time Machine and manually back up my music...
-
Yeesh, taelrak, just back up your music manually!
Or just wait for Leopard...its no longer that far away in time
.

I was going to write a long and comprehensive post, but I didn't want to promote your lazyness. Backup manually until leopard comes out
-
Heh, actually, this same thing happened to me back in 2005. There are a variety of free programs available to do this....

Just noting my interest in this thread...
I *do* back up manually. but am interested to know if my ipod (same settings as yours taelrak) could potentially be a back up if things went **** up both with my computer and back up drive... you can't have too many backups of the result of a passionate lifelong pursuit [yes I am still talking about music

Haha, nice, 00fez.
I'm still rather surprised at how well your sig turned out, 00fez...the "ez" really looks blended with the "007". -
What's with the double post Sam?
-
Oh, I just noticed it double posted!
I thought I posted it at first, but then I lost my WiFi connection halfway through, and when I refreshed the page, that post wasn't there so I assumed it didn't go through...
Time to delete one of them... -
you could try iPodRip
http://www.thelittleappfactory.com/application.php?app=iPodRip
It's shareware but you can download a trail to see if it will do what you're after. I think the trial is fully functional but restricted to 10 uses but I'm not 100% on that.
