This is my first iPod and I am expecting it tommorow, Im running a G5 iMac and a newer HP laptop with Vista Ultimate x64, this may be a useless question, but Ive got to ask, would or is there a significant difference syncing and servicing the ipod for music, pictures and all the other stuff, on a Mac (running Leopard) with iTunes 7.7 then on Vista with 7.7, the problem here is I installed iTunes on the Vista and now I have a ton of more services running in the background, Im trying to minumize performance impact (even though its not that much), Im starting to lean towards the fact that mabe servicing the iPod would be better on OSX.
Any experiances or input into this is much appreciated, not to mention I could be totaly wrong on my thoughts
    Thanks All

I'd probably sync it with the HP for a couple of reasons:

    - HP is newer, probably faster than the G5 by quite a bit (processor makes a difference in transfer speeds and iTunes performance)
    - HP is a laptop...if you take it with you anywhere you'll still be able to keep your iPod synced
    - Because the HP is newer, you're likely to get rid of your G5 before the HP. Apple makes transferring music off of your iPod more work than it should be (even though it still only takes 30 seconds if that to access your files...it's annoying).

If you wish to sync your iPod with Windows, there are other options besides iTunes. MediaMonkey and Winamp are a couple. (Winamp might require a plugin though, I'm not sure.)

iTunes does work fine (last I tried it) if you disable all the background processes (use msconfig or Windows Defender and also "services.msc"). Although I didn't use it with an iPod so I'm not sure if that part works. But every time you update iTunes, the processes will come back and you'll need to disable them again... it's annoying.

Here are some specifics about some of the background processes: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302488-en

But... since you have a Mac, it may be easier/smoother to sync it with that.
