I canceled my order for the 80GB iPod classic.
It turns out I really only have around 8GB of music, I planned to have a lot of video on the iPod too but I realize that its almost impractical for me to do this because i'll never have the time to sit down and watch the videos.
What would you if you were me![]()
It seems like a waste to get a Nano when for like $50 more you get 10x the storage space.

I would just go with the larger 80GB. Sure, you may never use up all that space, but it's really only $50 more for a lot more space. You'll appreciate the larger screen, even if you're only using it for music.
-
Yes, I say go with the 80GB too. You could use it over a longer time of period and this way you don't really have to worry about the space if you happen to exceed 8GB in the future. Who knows, you might just put in some movies into your ipod for the go or something. Nano's aren't good for movies.
-
I think you're better off with an iPod Nano then. Yes, the iPod Classic has much more storage space, but at the same time, the iPod Nano is also better because using flash memory its faster and more reliable. The iPod Classic may be a nuisance to carry around, and yeah. I'd go for a Nano then.
Or you could even consider an iPod Touch! -
You can always do what I do. I too have my music collection similar in size to yours. And I have the old iPod 30GB Video, and I use up maybe 50% of the space to store my PC backup. Like important files, game saves, etc. Like you yourself said, no point in getting the nano when for just a little more you get so much! So make use of the space... that's all there is to it

I like what Prasad said. Set the thing up for disk mode and make a folder on it to back up important files.

i just got rid of my video so i could get a nano for the nike run kit. i must say, i love the nano, yes i hold less videos and had to condense my library but it so much easyer to carry

The iPod nano is great for what it is. A super thin player that holds a lot and has no moving parts and, as a result, is extremely durable.
The 80GB iPod (I have the 5.5G) is great for the storage space and increased battery life.
If you work out or are physically active, the iPod nano is better (and its what its designed for) because its a lot smaller and has no moving parts. If you don't work out or are not physically active in the sense that it will be bouncing around a lot, then the 80GB is a good buy.
I use my 80GB to backup data as well as hold all of my music and a small number of movies.
If all you're going to do is listen to music and you have other backup solutions, get the iPod nano. Save that $50 and use part of it to get it a really nice case.
Edit: Forgot to mention I have the current nano too. If I had to choose between the nano or the 80GB, I'd pick the 80GB and use my 2G shuffle for my "physical needs". You can get a refurb shuffle for $50.
Also, be warned that Apple Build Quality© strikes again with the iPod nano and the 8GB models are known to have off-center and tilted screens. I'm on my 3rd one now and it still has a tilted screen. -
My suggestion, as always is the Cowon D2. For $200 you get 8GB onboard flash and an SDHC slot for infinite expandability. I get about 40 hours of audio playback with it and around 15 hours of video playback. The features on this thing are just endless(only thing it doesn't have is internet access
).
It' so much better than anything out there in terms of sound quality, so if you care at all about that don't get an iPod. -
The Cowon D2 is just another product being pushed by the anti-iPod crowd as sounding better than the iPod when it really doesn't (yes I've heard it). A few years ago it was the iRiver H1x0 series. Then the H3x0 series. Then various Creative players. The Rio Karma, even the Zune! hah.
The 5/5.5G, classic, and iPod nano all sound fantastic as long as you're using decent headphones. A current iPod nano and Koss KSC-75 will satisfy even most audiophiles out there. -
I love my Ipod Nano. But in my opinion I wish I had the Ipod Video. I have around 21GB of music and another 30GB of videos (DVDs ripped from home) that I would love to store/watch on the go. I am actually considering buying another MP3 player. I was going to buy the 80GB Ipod Video, but I actually think the Zune is better because of the much larger screen which will be nice for watching videos on
Anyways, the video is great. If you have Windows on boot camp you can try Napster + Soundtaxi.
Okay to answer your question specifically:
Lots of sports: Ipod Nano
Don't care about space: Ipod Nano
Want something for videos/lot of music: Ipod Video
Want something easy to get into your pocket (if you are a woman or man who wears tight jeans): Ipod Nano
Something that doesn't break easially: Ipod Nano (one reason I got it. I have dropped it at least 50 times running and whatnot but its so durable I love it!) -
I have a nano and love it. i just wish the headphones that apple packs with them is much better.
-
. I got Creative EP-630 earbuds for my birthday in December for about $25, and they sound so much better. Now when I use my old iPod earbuds, they sound so...muffled. I can't believe I lived with those for two years and didn't find them bad.
