There is a now a widely know compatibility problem with osx 10.6.8 and parallels that is causing the dockbar to use 100% cpu power even when parallels is not in use. This eats battery and overheats the laptop. To fix it remove the windows folder that parallels has made on the dockbar and go in the cpu utility and force quit the dockbar. It should restart using 1% or less after. You will know if it didnt work because if it didnt no matter how many times you quit or restart the cpu usage will pin again.

I noticed this happen to me about 3 days after i installed parallels on 10.6.8. it doesnt happen to everyone but so far its a pretty well known bug on most apple forums. so just wanted to post it here for people who dont browse the other mac sites.

Parallels also has posted a stepwise guide to fix this issue, which is principally repaired by simply updating Desktop 6 to build 12092, but also has a workaround.

According to them, this issue is only found in Parallels 6 and not earlier versions.
