Yeah and as it turns out there's a big kerfluffle about it. I'd say it'll be in the App Store for a while.
-
its not really against the GPL as far as I can tell.... just because the computer doesn't have a method for copying it around, doesn't mean the software was changed in a way to prevent it.
-
from numerous postings on videolan and engaget basically all say the same
the DRM addition comes into issue with the sharing changes with others bit as well. -
not really, as long as the developers who made this version make the source code available.
-
and make the DRM code available as well, since it is technically added to an OSS application ... which they can not as the DRM code is locked by Apple licencing

the GPL additionally demands that people who receive the program in binary form are free to redistribute it. Apple's DRM does not allow this. -
VLC is amazing!!! no more converting movies to mp4 to watch on iPhone/iPad
-
yea, VLC is cool. it's just a shame it doesn't also support audio.
-

... it definitely supports audio... -
it definitely doesn't on iDevices.
don't confuse desktop/laptop VLC player with the iDevice VLC player.
edit: I'm referring specifically to music when I say "sound". no sound in videos, obviously. It does not support music playback of any kind (flac, mp3, mp4, wav, ogg, etc)
if you like VLC on iPad/iPhone go get it
