another ram question because i know how much we all love these![]()
ive got somebody willing to trade me 2 gigs of ram thats 667 pc2 5300 and i just wanted to make sure that was the right speed the macbook needed? and this is a worthless question but while i have the thread i might as well- the ram is from 2 different manufacturers that wont effect the dual channel will it?

You'll be looking for 200-pin DDR2 SODIMM 667 MHz PC5300/5400 RAM. And I don't think having two different RAM modules from different brands will change dual channel...it should just recognize the type of RAM, which is identical.

ok thanks sam

Not really. Dual Channel needs specifically the exact same latencies in every possible parameter to work. So, if one uses different brands it is almost guaranteed not to work. Even if the latencies are by chance the same, the BIOS - or the equivalent in a MAC EFI and NVRAM - won't probably accept different sticks either, just to be on the safe side.
So, in short, if dual-channel is important for you - mainly if you game, so the extra bandwidth is handy - go with two identical sticks. Sometimes even sticks of the same brand and model, but of different revisions, don't work. If not, in most of the other real life situations dual-channel won't have that great an impact on the performance - I have two unmatched sticks myself.
im paranoid i know
