I'm running windows xp in boot camp because I have this program (a learning-French CD) that only runs in xp. The program has an audio section in which I listen to an audio clip and have to repeat it in a microphone, and I'm using the headset that came with the program. The mic is not working. I have another microphone and that one doesn't work, but both of them work on my other laptop which is PC.
Why would this be the case? Do I have to tweak something first? How can I test my mic input in os x?

I went to System preferences > Sound > Input, and in the "line in" section, the bar is not moving. I plugged the microphone in the output (headphone), mic in input, headphone in input, etc., the damn bar doesn't move. The only time it moves is when I plug the microphone in the input, and the bar jumps for 1 second and that's it.

For what it's worth, I have a new MacBookPro running Vista under bootcamp and I have the same problem. The "line in" microphone just doesn't work. I've tried with multiple mics and it just doesn't work.
