We have outlook at work with web access from home. I have not tried accessing it with Safari, but when I tried Firefox, it did not work right. This is probably a dumb question, but are there any problems in using internet explorer on a mac?

I would try using Safari first. It's odd Firefox gave you problems as it's almost as compatible as IE. Wrt Internet Explorer it was quite good in it's day but got passed up by Safari as the superior browser.

My personal preference for browsers are:

    1) Firefox
    2) Safari
    3) Opera
    4) IE

p.s. You may want to try Opera for OSX and see if it works.

Do not use IE for mac, since it's a very old version.

You could try the IE extension for Firefox, but I think that might be Windows only.

I'm pretty sure your Outlook webmail SHOULD work with Firefox, but don't hold me to that. I don't think it works with Safari though, since if a site isn't compatible with Firefox, it's more unlikely to be compatible with Safari.

I have a question for the OP. Are you having trouble with Outlook mail or Outlook part of the Office group?

If it's outlook mail why don't you use OSX's Mail? I think both OSX Mail and Outlook mail use POP 3.

I do not know how the web access for Outlook works, but it likely uses ActiveX. If that is the case you are out of luck since IE is the only browser that supports ActiveX that I know of. The Mac version won't help either I'm afraid.

Outlook Web Access does not require Active X.

It seems that IE works the best with OWA. Safari and Firefox both don't look "right" using OWA, but they still work though.

I just logged into my company's "Outlook Web Access" page using OS X 10.4.9 and Firefox 2.0.0.3 with no issues whatsoever. Seems like it works fine, looks fine, etc.

The IE Tab extension for Firefox is Windows only.

Thanks for all of the feedback. Sorry to be slow to respond. My problem with Firefox is that I cannot delete any emails. I can read them, and respond, but note delete. Seems like I had some other problems as well, though I don't recall what they were. This is a big enough hassle to make me wonder if I want a Mac. I will have to check out Safari specifically in this regard.

Any chance it's something that's been disabled server-side? I've used the web interface for my email (Exchange server 2003) with no problems in ... I think Opera, Firefox, Safari, and IE. Definately try a few other browsers and see if the problem persists. Try IE last. No reason to have that on your computer if you don't need to ;)

Hadn't thought to ask that question. I'll check with our computer geek and find out.

We have an outlook web mail system setup at our University and it works fine in both Safari and Firefox. I believe we are using exchange 2003 as well.
No problems with any functionality. Though things work differently than they do in IE.

Either by highlighting the email and pressing delete on the keyboard, or by clicking the red 'X' button in the toolbar.
