Your 3rd party NTFS driver died and obviously Tuxera decided to run it in kernel space. There's a reason why ntfs-3g only runs in user space.
You sacrificed stability for speed. -
THank you very much for that reply and I greatly appreciate it. There are times when I actually need to write on NTFS external hard drive. DO you recommend any other stable software for mac that enables this feature?

Here you go:
PARAGON Software Group - NTFS for Mac, communication channel between Mac OS X and Windows
They have a free trial so you can see if it fully works on your machine.
BTW, apparently NTFS-3G and Tuxera are now one in the same. Per Wiki
You could try the community edition, which is available here. -
Thank you very much for that reply. You have been really helpful
-
Stop using NTFS is the best way to go... if you need an external drive, format it in ExFAT that way both Mac OS X and Windows can read and write to it without any extra software.
-
thank you very much for that informative reply. just a small clarification, is it possible to load files more than 4gb onto a ExFAT hard rive? coz i think you can't do this on a FAT32 harddrive
-
No, they're not, although they seem to be based on the same code. Benchmarks and Jitto's error message (the Unix equivalent of a Windows BSOD btw) indicate that tuxera_ntfs runs in kernel space (fast but dangerous in case of driver instability) while ntfs-3g runs in user space (slow but harmless to the whole system if the driver crashes). That's a big technical difference.
According to some references I've found ntfs-3g under Mac OS X has no write support, so it doesn't seem to be a real alternative. ntfs-3g itself is write-capable though (it works under Linux). I've found statements that ntfs write support in OS X has to be enabled in fstab, but I don't know if these statements referred to ntfs-3g or to tuxera_ntfs.
[Disclaimer: My statements about OS X should generally be taken with a grain of salt. I have some knowledge of the underlying BSD userland but I know practically nothing of the system as it is seen by the end user.]
exFat can handle files up to 64ZB. -
thanks for that reply mate. appreciate the help
-
You can also try MacPorts and build the ntfs-3g package from source:

Never knew that....Cheers!!
