Well, for hobby stuff either will work just fine. To that end, between these too the cheaper one would be of better value.

Right. I don't think there is really anything on your list that would require the newer model especially since they are both going to perform very similarly if not exactly the same. You might as well go with the less expensive one since it is a better deal unless there is something physically wrong with it and/or has drastically less specs in other areas (hard drive/fusion drive, RAM, etc.).

I got the new one lol. 12 month interest free vs 6 month interest free at MacMall... So for $300 more I get a newer model and 6 months more to pay it..

Can't wait! I sold my retina MacBook pro for this guy. Coming from the 13" I was feeling cramped. I'll get an iPad mini for mobility and keep my iMac as my work horse.
Not that I expect anyone to care, but I'm stoked and need the world to know it!
