hi everybody, i'm a new mac user and the switch was really flawless !
by using my macbook and by surfing on apple.com i've found something really interesting ! i 've discovered the AirPort Express Base Station, nearly what i was looking for ! i didn't even know it existed !

the AirPort Express Base Station can play music through itunes or print wirelessly but the TROUBLE is that it DOES NOT support sound with other apps such as VLC or even imovies or idvd !!! :(
    i've got 2 questions  :
    - do you know a way to make the airport support sound from other apps ?
    - and do you know a similar accessory who works the same way or which is better ?

thank U all for your answers ! :)

I noticed you listed a bunch of video applications. Are you looking for something that will transmit video as well? Reason I ask is if you're only transmitting audio why would you need support for all those other apps? iTunes plays mp3 and wav files as well as AAC, and will import unprotected WMA files. I can't think of an audio format that the others would play that you would need with the possible exception of OGG and FLAC in VLC.

EDIT: I just came across an app called Airfoil. Looks like it should do the trick.

in fact, i wanted to watch a movie on my macbook, the images beeing on the macbook's screen and the sound coming directly and wirelessly from my altec lansing.
but, i've seen (thx to your link to airfoil) that it's impossible to do so because :
    (quote from airfoil)

"To put it simply, Airfoil is not recommended for use with video. Because of the way the AirPort Express hardware itself works, there's a delay from the time audio is played locally to the time it is heard remotely. Unfortunately, the issue here is with the hardware itself.

We're aware that many users want to watch movies on their computer and send the audio to remote speakers connected to an AirPort Express. Unfortunately, because of the aforementioned latencies in the AirPort Express hardware, the audio will lag behind the video."

so if watching a movie on the macbook while the sound is transferred through the altec lansing with the airport,
is there another way to do so ?
(i really am a omplicated guy... :D lol)
