Hi
One quick question.
After apple switched to a intel cpu, is it possible to fdisk the hardisk and install a microsoft operating system? Like windows Vista?
-
I think you need to use Apple Disk utility to partition the drive, from what I read, but can't recall exactly.
-
Get bootcamp from apple, and it guides you through the whole setup. No need for fdisk or anything like that.

Yes, just use Boot Camp. Easy and simple.
-
If I read the OP question right, he is asking about completely hosing the hard drive, remove OS X and do a fresh install of Vista on the mac hdd?? Correct? Using the Intel Mac shell now to run Windows??
-
Dont think so. Problem is EFI and BIOS. Windows doesnt support EFI natively, so you cant use FDisk and windows installer directly
-
I'm sure there's a way to hack that up. Maybe with something like rEFIt?
-
You can run Windows on Intel Macs and completely remove OS X. It does work. Check out InsanelyMac.
-
Why would you want to remove OSX completly defies the purpose of getting a Mac.
-
Depending on what you are doing Tiger is of no use to some people but the newest mac hardware is good looking stylish and faster than most -
As the last post suggest, yes. I want it for the hardware. Hard to find laptops with that kind of hardware. And the looks of it is.... Well. Nice

This question has been asked several times at various forums I visit. The consensus has normally been, and I agree, that unless you've got a lot more money on hand than do most folks, you'd be much better off buying a nice, good-looking Windows machine such as an Asus. In any case, I wish you well with this, but personally would not desecrate my own beautiful Mac by installing Windows.

regarding the complete wipe of OS X, if you decide to install the OS X later it will still work right?
-
i mean it seems possible doesn't it? because all you have to do is insert the OS X disc right?
-
I have to agree with you here.
Why not just customize a Windows PC to have the same hardware as the Mac...? You can't possibly tell me that it's worth all this trouble (finding a way to get rid of OS X and install Windows) just for the look of the notebook? -

Why not run Boot Camp? Partition the drive so OS X has the minimum amount of space, allocating the rest for Windows. Once Windows is installed, the Mac will boot to it by default. It'd be as if OS X weren't even there.
-
Yeah, I think you'd be better off (and have less troubles) just using Boot Camp and minimizing the OS X partition to the lowest possible. That way, OS X is barely there but you will have it if you ever suddenly need it, and also its less of a hassle than to remove OS X altogether.

I would advise against completely getting rid of OS X. It would be needed for future updates to things like the EFI firmware and Boot Camp (drivers) and other things that could be important to the way your system runs, even in Windows. If you insist on Apple hardware, just shrink OS X to the minimum.
