Okay, I have a question about the Apple Macbook 13.3 inch display -yeah, that one. about the heat issues...I use my laptop for hours on end editing photos and surfing the internet and listening to music...all at the same time - which is probably why my current toshiba is about to crap-out on me...so I'm looking at the new apple macbooks, but the heat issues scare me, because I work with the computer on my lap almost all of the time! So I noticed the review still said it was running a little warm even after the replacement was gotten, but what about those plastic strips that they claim were covering up the vents? Is it still running too hot and should I start another search for a different line of notebooks? I would REALLY REALLY REALLY appreciate y'all's help, this is a big step in my computer evolution buying process.
Sincerely with thanks,
Ross

I didn't have a plastic strip on two MacBooks that I've used and they ran warm, but different people seem to be having different experiences. I'd say wait a month before the first batch is sold and any issue that exists that Apple might not be talking about right now will be solved in that time anyway. Out of the three reviews on this site, 2 complain about heat while one does not. Two with heat issues were purchased in the USA and the one without was purchased in England.
Either way, I can say the MacBook I use is certainly warmer than other PC notebooks I've used, but not as warm as an old Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop with a Pentium 4 that I used. I would definitely not recommend using the MacBook in your lap, it's trouble if you do. On a desk it's in most cases going to be fine. -
The MacBook feels warmer to the touch than other notebooks because it is designed for the heat to desipate(sp?) through the case. It was designed for the bottom to be hot.
So my opinion would be that it will always run hot. Another reason is they like to keep them quite, henceforth keeping the fans off most of the time. When the book reaches a certain temperature, it turns the fans on for a few seconds to lower the temperature, then either turn back off, or turned down until they are almost off(hence the mooing).
So the heat issue can be fixed with a firmware update to keep the fans on longer, or have them come on at a cooler temperature. -
actually, the fans should always be running, but they are usually running at slower speeds to keep quiet. Try holding your notebook to your ear when it is running silent, you should hear a slight whir.

But the point is they are still barely running.
